OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

redshewmn:  Bootcamp is about 8 weeks long when you add in their processing days upon arrival, 6 wks of training, and a few days after their final test before PIR.  Some may be held longer when they arrive and will actually be the first to fill the NEXT PIR group.  You can call your SR's recruiter to see what the PIR date is or wait for the form letter to be sure.

My son went on feb 8th from San Diego....have not heard anything.....when will I get anything...I think he's having a rough time??

That's great, anagirl!  Maybe you can send a few questions in each letter you send?  Might be easier for your SR to answer that way rather than when having limited phone time.

And, yes, they ARE different in so many ways....but still true to who they are!  Many worry that their SRs will have to change who they are, but they don't.  They just may change the way they conduct themselves!  It is a new mature person!  PIR is so great to see all of these changes!

Thanks diannep! I got a call and a letter from my SR on Thursday. The call was mostly business but we did get a few seconds to chat. He already sounds different to me! More mature and directionally clear. Proud momma heart! ❤⚓️ I had so many questions but didn't want to waste our phone time with them. I knew I could count on these great groups to help me answer them!

anagirl:  Yes, the SRs will have "a job" assigned to them while at Bootcamp.  Some will assume leadership roles for their division...all of these jobs are just for the duration of Bootcamp.

Do all SRs receive a job while at boot camp?
