trust me donna they do not want to lose a recruit, a SEAL or any recruit for that matter. They take all necessary precautions for their safety. THey have many many safety measures in place during training. The training is very difficult and stressful however the reason for this is so that they produce the top SEALS that will not be injured or killed when in the field. The Navy spends a lot of money and energy and time on each one of these guys - they are not going to let them get hurt or worse.

Hi Donna, Our son is also going into the SEAL program. We know how scary it can be and how it sounds. We received a reassuring phone call from one of his trainers (pre-basic)and he told us how prespared they were and what they did to help him and insure their success. Having sons who loves the extremes in life can be a roller coaster ride but I hang on to the Lord and I trust that he will be safe and he is doing what he loves. It's so hard for us Moms to let them go.But they need to do what a man has to do.We would support him in anything he wanted to do, so this is our opportunity to show it. Keep your chin up and remember you raised a son who wants to serve and honor his country. There is no greater calling. Well done Mom!! Take care. Hope this helped a little.Kellie

Hi Donna: My son, Jim is in basic boot camp now and will head for preBUDS as soon as he has finished boot camp in January. My son gave me a book, before he left, called The Warrior Elite by Dick Couch. He has written a series of SEALS books, he was one himself, and it gives a full account of what our sons will go through in BUDS training. I cried through some of it, mostly out of fear for my son, but as I read the book I became comforted that what they will teach them will have a direct impact on saving their lives when they are in the field. It's just not torture for no good reason. The author gives real life situations where a SEAL lived because of what he learned in training. Our sons have chosen a very difficult job to do but I have confidence that they will be trained well. Our sons are special too want to do this kind of work for our country. God Bless them. I hope you will find some comfort with this info.

I just want to thank everyone, I have been reading alot on all these sites and it does help alot!!! I guess I was just going thru an acceptance stage or something. He is so happy in his letters and literally says it's everything he expected and he really likes it alot and can't believe he is finally living his dream. he has wanted this since grade school, we used to say his room looks like a recuriting station from the outside of the door to the inside and he even asked me if i changed any of it. which of course moms you know how it is, i wouldn't dare, but i will say this i am in it everyday lol. thanks again Donna

Hi I am new to the board, I have been reading post for the last 2 weeks and find it to be very informative. I have a concern that my son may read this thread, my name is also DONNA and think that I started this thread. I dont want him to be worried.
