cfbirch: Send me a 'friend request' and we can discuss this further in a PM (private message). Thanks!

Looks like she'll be playing the "hurry up and wait game". It's no fun but it seems that's the way the Navy does things.

her previous orders had a date of next week for starting.

Her current orders stand until she receives new ones. Once she receives her new orders the current orders will be invalid.

Has she started "A" school??

so does that mean the orders she received just after graduation (11/2) are correct?

She'll receive new orders. Verbal orders are just a 'heads up'. My son has received many verbal orders and he passes them on to me but I don't make any airfare reservations until he gets his written orders. Hope this helps!

her written orders after graduation had dates for schooling, coming home in december and the date she was due to report to the ship in Japan. Now she is being told (not in writing) that those dates wont hold.

cfsnowmom, one thing you learn quickly about this Navy life is that nothing is ever set in stone and things can always change! "Needs of the Navy" determines all! Still, until she has orders in her hand, stipulating any change of plans, what she has been told (though probably from knowledgeable, in the know mouths down there) is just hearsay and rumor. Unexpected or anticipated hold times can change training timetables. Be patient and wait for the final and official word.

Also, most, if not all, "A" schools stand down for the holidays. Sailors can put in leave chits, it's up to their command to approve it. New Sailors may not have enough leave time on the books to come home for the holidays or may have to choose to go in the hole to do so. This means possibly choosing not to be able to make a trip home prior to leaving for Japan (that's a long way to go for a visit and depending on her Rate and assignment/orders, it may be 1-3 years before she makes it home again) so you should all talk that through and try to be on the same page. Just my first thoughts. Lets see what the others say and know. :)

My daughter is at Naval Air Training Command in Pensacola after graduating on 10/30. Her paperwork given her after graduation had dates of her schooling in Florida, dates of time home in December and the date for her assignment in Japan. She called last night and said she is being told that she will most likely remain in Pensacola until February. Shouldnt she be given formal paperwork stating that? She is in the Airman Pact program. Thank you.

My husband had been in the marines and he had to gain some weight to leave for boot camp and that was 25 years ago. My son on the other hand was 2 lbs over. He is not over weight the least bit. So the day he left he didn't eat all day so he could make weight. But, within 2 weeks of boot camp he lost 10 lbs. I hope your recruit makes it.
