My son has been waiting for a medical waiver since last May. He was just informed by his recruiter that the recruiting office is closing down until January. He hopes to be able to offer contracts again in 2010. My son was told he will have to start the process all over again in January. The recruiter stated that the interest in the Navy has been overwhelming and that coupled with increased retention due to the economy has resulted in few openings. We will hang in there and try again in January. It is FRUSTRATING!

To update everyone, my husband met with his recruiter yesterday and was told most rates were completely full. He was given a list of the open ones and will be going back today to let him know if he wants to go with something that is open instead of wating for MAA. He's decided to pursue a couple of the open rates so he can get the process started and give us the financial relief we are needing. I think my biggest issue with this process was that he was told 4 days before leaving that he wasn't going, but I understand if they are full they cannot continue to send people. Now we'll see what MEPS says about when he can leave!

Cityslick- I have gotten to the point that I had to talk with my sons recruiter myself. I asked why my son had to wait and was getting the run around, I informed the recruiter that it seemed like he had to beg to be apart of the Navy. Maybe you need to get involved, it is good to have a relationship with the recruiter yourself, it gave me piece of mind and I truly know what is going on now. I talked with the main person in the recruiting office and everything changed quickly!! Just a suggestion. I hope it helps, keep me informed. I have started a Waiting for Waiver group, you can look for me there too.
MLP... I do not know if the Navy is on a hiring freeze, I do know that they are 100% full and the only jobs available right now is Special Ops. My son is waiting on a waiver for his eyes then is planning on joining the EOD or Air Rescue Swimmer. I do not know when his BC date will be? Hopefully sooner than later because he is ready to go and he is driving me crazy, because I have no anwsers for him about the Navy. Your question would be a good one for the recruiter!!! I hope this helps. Have a good night.

MLP, I certainly don't have all the answers but my son signed up Feb 09 and didn't leave until end of July. I think there are many things that go on behind the scenes that we don't know about and possibly the recruiters don't know all. There were several times they told my son he would probably be leaving end of month and that didn't happened as planned. Is your husband on the DEP? If so I would think that he would be leaving sooner or later. I am an impatient person and want things to happen right now, however, my husband (Navy veteran) saids military doesn't work that way and everything works on their time not ours. I wish you best and hopefully things will work out for you and your husband.

He told me that he was very happy with me and that he had a nice time living beside me and that if he has to be born again he would like to be with me....I love him so much!!!!! God bless him and all the others recruits too!!!

Question for everyone...My husband was supposed to leave for boot camp today 11/16 and was told on 11/12 that he would not be leaving because the navy is on a hiring freeze. His recruiter stated that no one was leaving for boot camp until the new year, but as I do more research it is evident there are people from all over going every week. Has anyone else heard of this or is this a lie? My husband and I were really relying on this to finally get some financial relief and we really need this to be resolved asap. Is there anything we can do to get him sent before the end of the year? He is going in as an E-2 MAA. Thanks for the help!

Thanks-
I think the recruiter is avoiding the situation! they lost his medical records once - and so my son went around and got them all gathered again, hey are saying he will go to MEPS- this week, but they have been saying that for months now. I know i have to be patient, but it is getting difficult to keep him motivated becuase he feels like he is just getting the run around. However, he does stop in the office as much as 2 x week to check his status, so that is good.

Are you waiting for a medial waiver? They usually take 2 weeks to a month to recieve an anwser because they have to send everything off to TN. I do not know if he has a chance or not? It is hard to tell honestly. The problem is the Navy is 100% full right now so they can be picky if they want too. What has his Recruiter said about it? The Navy doesn't make the decision if he is allowed to join with a condition like that it is all up to the Docs at MEPS/TN. I hope this has helped. You soon too will learn the patience of hurry up and wait. I have been there since July, MEPS has taught me a lot about patience let me tell ya!!
