Am i jumping the gun??? what do I do as a mom sit back what if he is unhappy he just can not change his mind once he leaves with maybe a position that the recuiters are not to familar with themselves this Navy officer has been in the navy for a long time any who can help me i would be grateful.

My son is on the USS Nassau in Norfolk Va..He really likes being A QM.They all do other things when they all not out to sea.My son is also 20.I think your son made A good choice to be A QM.if he want to be A officer some day.I also hear air traffic controler is very stressfull so maybe he is better off for now ,he can always try for it down the road.If you have any more ? just go to my page and I'll do my best to put you mind at rest.My name is Alice

Dear Judy
My husband and I just returned from being on my son's ship for 7 days on the Tiger Cruise. We were able to observe his duties as a QM up close and at all hours and we could not have been prouder. The officers and chief on the bridge with him were quite supportive and all worked as a close knit team with mutual respect. My son is also one of the ship's search and rescue swimmers so he does have to make time to work out in the gym to keep in shape. During deployment he has very little down time, partly because they need more people to qualify as quartermasters. It is a very detail oriented job.

My daughter is a QM. It is a fascinating job, and not a bad choice by any means. He will spend A LOT of time at sea. He will work on the bridge and will see many wonderful things. He will work directly with the captain. My daughter has been to Mexico twice, sailed through the Panama Canal and many places along the way. Being on the bridge, he will get a bird's eye view of the course they will be sailing. It takes a truly responsible person to do this job. They are responsible for the course they will sail whenever they are at sea. She really loves her job. And, I too, have been on an overnight tiger cruise and saw first hand what they do. And it is AMAZING!!!!!
