Tim, called tonight with flight info. Leave is approved and we are going to pick him up, from the airport tomorrow morning!! Got the welcome home banners back out again, picked up a new ice cream cake welcoming him home and the guy behind the counter at Wally World, who has only been in the country for eight months, wrote "Welcome Home Tina" on the cake. I had to laugh.
Suzie,
He is still waiting for orders but in all fairness to the navy he was on security hold because of financial issues that he should have had squared away already. Now his hold is off but he told me tonight/last night that it will be at least two more weeks before a new set of orders come in to chose from.
How is your daughter? Is she still there?

My son has been there since August, he finished school but is on medical hold. He hurt his ankle in boot camp and it still isn't healed. They are going to do an MRI soon to see what is wrong. He is hoping to get released soon so he can go to his next duty station. He to is afraid he will have to stay there permanetly The selfishness of mom thinks its not all that bad, I can talk to him everyday and get visits more often. but the mom in me wants him to travel and see the world while serving his country.

Donna...Please don't tell me he's been there that long,my daughter got there on Sept. 15 and had hoped to be finished by Thanksgiving and now she's told after the first of the year, but she will get 10 days at Christmas, but if she uses her 10 days she won't get to come home b/4 she leaves for her next station which she thinks will be Whitby Island. She is always so positive with us,Mom & Dad, but she tells her friends she hates it there. Oh well what will be will be. Sue

Hey everyone,

Tim is still in Meridian. Been there since June 14th. I am beginning to think that it IS his permanent duty station. He does plan on trying to get leave for Thanksgiving. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Well we just returned to NC, seeing Meridian, was very impressed with it all,our Daughter has been there since PIR on 9/11 and was miserable for the 1st 3 days, and just started A=School last Thur.,they are pretty strict and really are trying to get our Sailors ready to be the best that they can be,if the rules aren't followed 100% it's bad,but keep in mind it's good for them. Our SJ grad's Dec. 8th and I am sure she'll cry when she leaves,as she did BC.The rooms are nice and it's a lot of walking, but they are a lot of happy Sailors there. The base is at least 15-20 miles from town in the middle of nowhere, lots of wildlife roaming arround,we saw deer, skunks, squirells& even armadillo,no bears,so don't worry.
It really was a great experience and the Sailors were so polite in welcoming us to their base, even the Chiefs and Captains made us feel so welcome...could it have been the 12 dozen containers of homemade cookies and candy??? I am not sure, but it was a great week-end for us in Meridian.Later, Suzie B

You might also hear the phases referred to as the dot system. There's the red dot, yellow dot, and green dot respectively.

Liberty is set up in phases...in phase 1 liberty they have to be in uniform at all times, can't drink alcohol, and have to be back on base by 10pm every night. In phase 2 liberty they can wear civilian clothes after work or school and on the weekends are allowed to drink alcohol. They have to be back by 10pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Phase 3 liberty is the same as phase 2, except they can stay out overnight, but they must put in a request chit at least 3-5 days in advance for this. Also, any time they sign out on liberty, they have to have a liberty buddy with them. Even to go to certain places on base, they will need a liberty buddy. But if you are an immediate family member or spouse, you can sign as their liberty buddy. They are allowed to drive, but must be within a 150 mile radius if they have at least phase 2 liberty. If a sailor takes LEAVE, they are allowed to come home. You can go see your sailor, but unless you qualify as a liberty buddy, you will have to have 3rd wheel there. By the way, unless you stay in the CBQ's on base, the closest hotels are 30 minutes away. If you have any more questions, just ask! I've been to Meridian about 3 times now. :)
