Hi all.....so, things seem quiet in our kids barracks - huh? Good, I've been hearing some nightmare stories of other barracks on base, lock downs (smoking inside from a sailor), under age drinking...etc. Jeesh!!

Yes, the barrack seems to be pretty quiet, thank goodness! My son's only real complaint is that he's crammed in a very small room with 2 other guys. Not that he doesn't get along with them, he does, but he says the room would be cramped with 2 people in it and they have 3. Oh well, if that's all he has to worry about........I reminded him that when he goes off to sea he'll have even less room. "Oh yeah, I forgot about that." He started AWS school today so won't have much time to spend in his room anyway.

Ethan is in Alpha Barracks...haven't heard much about them, either--other than the incident before Christmas about the machete. I asked him about that, and he said it was done during the day and that the kid who brought it in wanted to get
caught so he would get separated. Ethan said he had heard that the kid had some major stuff happening at home, and
just got overwhelmed with the timeframe of being in the Navy for his contract and what was going on back home. That's what he heard, anyway...
Is Greg excited about his classes? 6 weeks! Ethan said his AM classes would by 38 days, so that would be close to that, too. I hope that maybe this weekend he can make it to the USO and relax a little. I am certainly going to encourage him to do that! He needs to save more of his paycheck than he has been!

I'm not sure "excited" is the right word. He knows he has to pass this part of his training so he's glad to get it started so he can get it over with. He's been extremely lucky, classing-up-wise. After being stuck at GL for nearly 2 months after PIR, once he got to P'cola things started to move fast. He classed up 3 days after he arrived last September and hasn't had to wait more than a few weeks for any of his classes. He's spec ops so that may be why.

Are any of your kids sick? Greg has some kind of flu-type thing, fever etc. he says it's going around. He felt really bad but he went on a 5K run anyway (????) but now isn't sure if that helped or hurt him. He says he's sweating a lot and thinks his fever's down so he may be getting over it. He's spent most of the weekend sleeping, which can't hurt....get lots of rest and drink lots of liquids, as they say. Big test on Tues. so he'd better be feeling good by then.

Hey Chris,
Marke had the same thing at the beginning of last week but said drank lots of hot ginsing tea and orange juice and feeling alot better this weekend. Haven't heard from him in a couple days so I figure he's studying (hopefully). Hope Greg feels better.

Hi Darci,
Greg finally went to the doctor as he was afraid he was getting a sinus infection, but the doc said he just had what everyone else has and is getting over it, just he just has to wait it out. He was feeling a little better last night when we talked. He was worried that feeling so lousy wouldn't help his studying for the test, but they delayed the test for at least a day so he'll have more chance to get to feeling better. He says there are 4 slots open for San Diego and 7 who want to go there so he knows how important it is to do well at AWS.

How's your hubby? Did they ever figure out what was wrong with him? Hope he's feeling better and you're a little less stressed.

Hi all,
My son's in Carl Vinson too. I haven't heard any bad things either about the barrack. He was sick..flu-like but he's feeling better. My son is also sharing with two other sailors. They all get along fine. My son is in A school for CTM and his schooling is at night so when he gets in..sometimes school lets out @ 11pm..he is respectful of the other guys sleeping. They have their fun on the weekends..LOL. They are all in their twenties so.. He also said they have regular PT exercise during the morning and they were playing football several times a week.

Does room 268 sound familiar to anyone? It would be nice to find his room mates.

Hi Moms!

My son is in Carl Vinson as well.
He arrived April 21, 2009.

I'm not sure who his room mate is. Joey had two room mates the first couple of weeks, and now has one. I’ll find out his name.

He was told upon arrival at Pensacola that he is on hold for A-School (AE) for three months - and he's very disappointed about that. He's ready to get to work.

I’m looking forward to making friends w/you Moms!

I have a question – and hopefully someone can help me.
We live in California (Bay Area) and I’m trying to price out airline tickets to Pensacola.

I checked Expedia and the ‘best’ deals are on Continental and AA which have flights from Pensacola to San Jose (and visa versa), but those are almost $400 RT.

Has anyone found a cheaper way to fly to/from Pensacola? Is there a better airport to fly out of near Pensacola (since that’s not a major airport). Do the sailors get any military discount?

Thanks for any advice!
Thx, Lisa A.

i have checked every way ,and have not found cheep flights,I live in mass, and the flight are the same price. i have been checking flight for my son so he can come home ,he has liberty for four days , and I have't seen him in eight months ,so to me I would pay,but they are limited to when they come and go. If you are flexable you can name a price for last min flights ,or just keep checking for prices on speical to pencacol, they do have dates that you can get deals ,only if you can go then.
