Navy For Moms

My son just arrived in Pensacola on Wednesday. Can he soon get his cell phone and I-pod as well as civilian clothes soon? What are things that I need to know since I am new to this website? Any pointers? I have seen that many are waiting for school to start is that the same for AO training? Joe will be attending AO school.

Thanks!
Wendy

You can go ahead and mail all that stuff to him when you get his address. If he can't use it yet, he can store it until he can. Our son could use his cell phone and ipod right away, but had to wait to wear those civilian clothes! Our son was at Corry Station in Pensacola and not NAS. I don't know if they are different or not.

Hi ladies, My son is in Pensacola now been there about 2 weeks. He love it he has his cell and Ipod, we shipped his computer and he'll have that by Monday. ...cell phones are great but this computer thing is even better. He gave me his old one when he left. Yep, I'm a beginner.

Wendy,
Your son will be waiting a while for A school to start. My son has been in Pensacola since Jan 2. He hasn't started A school yet. Your son is able to use his cell phone and Ipod but only at certain times. We've just returned home today from visitng our son. The base is wonderful. Your son will love it. He also wont be able to wear civilian clothes until he get to phase two. My son is also an AO. He took his cellphone with him to A school. We talk to him daily. Sometimes 2 or 3 times.

hi wendy, my son is also an AO and is finishing up his c-school there. he has been in p'cola since nov. 18th. he got his orders and will be heading to japan. if you havent yet, joing also the AO group. they are a very helpful group of moms. someone always has an answer to any question, espcially an AO question. be prepared for your son to be in p'cola for a few months. they are backed up in classes so he will be doing a lot of cleaning for awhile. let him know to try get with some other AO sailors so they can start getting to know eachother and even though he hasnt classed up he will still be able to do PT with the other AO. the AO sailors are a tight group of sailors.

My boyfriend, Michael just arrived in P-cola on wednesday as well. He already has his cell phone and his laptop is on it's way. He is also AO. He told me that it will be 2 months before his actual training starts. Is this what you've been hearing?
Also, do you know about the ATT and AWAT classes that everyone must take? I've heard that they can be taken online. If you have any info, please do share!!

Keep in touch!

Im sure you already found out about the ATT and AWAT by now but for those of you who don't know ATT is not done by every rate in pensacola...but most of them. Its a month long but also work at your own pace some people can get it knocked out in just a couple weeks. ATT is after AWAT. AWAT depending on your rate also has to do with how long you are there for could be 2 days could be 2 weeks. AWAT is taken online through NKO and you can do it on your own after you get out of class. If you want to class up faster get those done ASAP

Hi Wendy
Kyle arrived in Pensacola on Wed. I spoke to him yesterday and he's asking for his cell phone & laptop. He told me to hold off on sending him clothes until, he can wear them. He's AM and can be there up to 9 months before classing up. He's on hold, he says the AO's are moving much faster with starting school.

Hi All! My daughter got to P-Cola on Wed (4-29) as well for AM schooling. What a huge adjustment from BC. She's trying to figure out her way around & stuff. I mailed her 2 care packages yesterday. 1st was her laptop & cell phone, which should be there by now as I over-nighted that box. The 2nd box I sent 2nd day (she should get on Mon), which has her divisional tee, hoodie, sneakers, hair dryer, hair strightener, cosmetics, etc. The down-time & boredom is really bugging Melissa.

They can volunteer for 'duties' to beat the boredom & fill in the down-time. They can volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, working in the library, etc. When I discover where this list is, I'll share the info and any other info I come across.
