Welcome to the Pensacola Group

As a reminder: Please don't post your Sailors First and Last name together, address or phone numbers. If you need to pass on this information, please add to your friends list, the person you wish to give this information to. Then you can send them a Private Message.
Wait in A-School at Pensacola has decreased so much. Sailors are classing up in 4-6 weeks instead of 3-6months. The Base at Pensacoa is very beautiful, so your Sailor has a great place to be on hold. I have added a link to Pensacola's web site. Go check it out. There is alot of contact information there.

My son arrived home at 2am this morning after a crazy weekend of traveling with that terrible storm. Saturday night on the floor at the USO in Charlotte. Was happy to be awakened by him and my husband at 2am. Seems his sea bag had shipped out to Philly earlier. It was riding around a luggage conveyer belt when he finally located it. Thank goodness he's home safe. Everyone have a Merry Christmas and wonderful,Holiday.with your families.

Patrice - Ship 11-Division 25 ~ Corry Station supplies the linens (towels, sheets, blankets, pillow, etc.). I asked about the quality and my son is happy with his. He purchased a special lock set at the NEX. It depends on what the room assignment as to the number of locks - keyed alike. My son's first room needed 5. His current needs less. My son uses his cell phone as his alarm clock and his watch alarm as his backup. Once your son gets there, he will have a nice little list for you. Mostly the cell, laptop, civis, etc. The toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc. are easy for them to get ~ as the big NEX is at Corry Station. Not too many weeks after your son's arrive at Corry Station, they will probably text you from a Walmart, Best Buy, or a PacSun. See how fast they settle in? Corry Station has a mix of military (Navy, Marines, and Air Force) either on hold for classes or in classes. Do not be surprised if they are on hold for several months. ~ kk

Thanks Robin - my son will be in Corry Station and is a CTR. Not sure if that changes your list or not. Thanks again - lot of good information.

Hi Patrice...they are permitted to have cell phones, laptops, electronics, cilivilan clothes. Where will he be stationed...at NAS Pensacola or Corry Station? What is his rate? It all depends on where he is ...you might want to wait until he arrives to see but for sure he will need an alarm clock that operates on batteries...towels to take a shower with...cell phone...civilian clothes (it has been cold here lately but will be summerlike again in March). He will need at least one if not two pad locks...combo type i think...

Things to think of sending later or having him buy here...the navy will issue them bedding...most of them do not like the bedding or they make their beds perfectly and then either tape their sheets down or use their stays (the straps they give them to help them keep their shirts tucked into their pants and it attaches to the shirt tail and the socks...well some guys use them to keep their sheets tight and tucked in!!! so they never have to make the bed again!!! hahahaha so they buy blankets to use to sleep on top of the bedding!!! My daughter did not have a pillow in her barracks (mind you she is at a permanent duty station and not a school barracks) She bought...a closet organizer ...the kind that snaps over a clothes rod and then has little compartments, she bought a thing that goes up and over the closet door and has 3 hooks on it to hang up her wet towel and backpack on, a laundry basket, an over the shower head shampoo organizer...pjs, slippers, swifter duster to dust the room with...she bought a swifter wet mop to mop the room with...laundry soap ...stuff like that...surely every thing he needs he can get right here at the NEX or Walmart. But us moms like to send comfort items!!! haha Robin

Hi All of your seasoned Pensacola Mom's and Wives, I am new to the group and my recently (12/18) graduated Sailor will be arriving in Pensacola on 1/2/10. I would like to ask you what, other than their issued gear do the men bring with them to Pensacola. I know that I will be shipping his civilian clothing down once he gets an address but would like to know what else he might like to have down there and what are they permitted to have. Thanks in advance for your responses and I'm happy to be joining your group.

Regards, Patrice

Happy Holiday's everyone... my son made it home last night.. the only trouble was waiting for the plane out of Charlotte (damn snow storm anyway)-- but me and 9 of his friends all met him at the airport and then went to dinner together then they all came over for several hours.. it was alot of fun--- just like old times :)... i hope you all enjoy your sailors while they are home.. take care :)

Hi All - my son got home yesterday, too, after being stuck in North Carolina Saturday night. Was able to get him into a CT airport, instead of NY, so all is very well!! Wishing everyone a very wonderful Christmas and hugs to all our Sailors wherever they may be!!
