Welcome to the Pensacola Group

As a reminder: Please don't post your Sailors First and Last name together, address or phone numbers. If you need to pass on this information, please add to your friends list, the person you wish to give this information to. Then you can send them a Private Message.
Wait in A-School at Pensacola has decreased so much. Sailors are classing up in 4-6 weeks instead of 3-6months. The Base at Pensacoa is very beautiful, so your Sailor has a great place to be on hold. I have added a link to Pensacola's web site. Go check it out. There is alot of contact information there.

wi mom~ where is your son going?
SueS (ABF Mom) Comment by SueS (ABF Mom) 3 hours ago
wi-mom~ this is so frustrating and if your son has orders to go afterward MAKE SURE he understands the travel time. The person at SATO (military travel agency) didn't say a word to my son about the dates and made a schedule for him to travel to Seattle on the 13th of Jan and his flight to Japan isn't until the 24th!! I guess he thought he would report to the airport! After 2 days on the phone with SATO,Delta airlines and going to the recruiters office it is all now fixed. I wish you the best!

wi-mom settle down breathe deep get in your car on the interstate and scream your head off (no one can hear you)!!! I cant even imagine how much this is stressing you out--but you have been in the Navy long enough to know that that is all part of it!!!! Hang in there it will all work out I promise and yall can sit around on Christmas day and laugh about it!! If all else fails drink a margirita--thats the only way I survived Boot Camp--never heard from my son because he didnt know how to use the calling card and wouldnt ask and I didnt go to graduation---he left 8/2 and called from a friends phone to tell us he was leaving Atlanta and headed for PCola and wanted us to drive to PCola to see him at the airport!!! We drove like crazy!!!!

I am really stressing today. My son finished A school last Friday and was told he could leave the 23rd, tomorrow. He still doesn't have a ticket yet. I don't know what they are waiting for but this waiting is killing me. Don't they know how excited we Moms get when our sailors are coming home? Oh, I need to breathe and calm down. Thanks for letting me vent a little so I don't go crazy.

Patrice - Ship 11-Division 25 ~ I totally agree with Jacqueline; "A" School at Corry Station is a very different atmosphere. The new Sailors do have a period of adjustment. The other Sailors and Officers are very welcoming. The problem arises when a Sailor tries to push the wrong buttons or not adhere to the rules. My son did have scheduled PT in the beginning. I am not sure if this schedule has changed - as he also runs on his own. I can tell you that one day when they were called to PT, they had 4 hours of constant physical activity. Yes! While the Marines ran, the Sailors had Dodgeball! My son said that was the best 4 hour workout he ever had! He was tired and sore - but had a great time. ~ laughing here : ) They do have inspections and they do have muster ~ both are scheduled and both can be a surprise. Once they are settled in (hard to say how long this takes normally as my son arried Thanksgiving week), they are assigned jobs. I have not heard one word about boredom. They are active, have responsibilities (assigned and personal), and enjoy their free time. I hope this helped! ~ kk

Patrice....it is a very different atmosphere. They have instructors now...not even close to an RDC. "Some" of the instructors require PT (NO IT) but usually just once they class up. So it is good advice for the sailor to keep up some kind of PT on their own everyday. Yes they have inspections, just no where close to as vigorous as BC.
Most sailors actually have some time of decompressing once they arrive. They are still jumpy from BC and are just waiting for someone to get in their face and yell. That just doesnt happen at Pensacola. They will find things there are very more relaxed.

Robin~ make an egg casserole in a glass pan and then re-heat. It well travel well in a cooler or even the trunk at this time of year! Also, I think there are microwave muffin mixes that even have the microwave pans in the box. At least that would taste "fresh"! Hope this helps! Merry Christmas

Michelle welcome...by the time your sailor makes it to Pcola you will be a pro!!! hahaha
Glad to hear that most everyone is making it to their desinations and will celebrate with their favorite sailors and family this year!!

And Welcome back Jacq...we are leaving on Christmas Eve morning to truck over to Mayport...trying to figure out what I could take from home...that would travel well by car (6 hours) to fix for breakfast in the Navy Lodge microwave on Christmas morning...got any ideas??? Robin

Patrice...from what I have read on here...some barracks allow food in the rooms and others dont...which could add to the list or not I am not sure about the Corry Station barracks...they have a mix there of old and new barracks...Im not sure if they seperate the IT sailors from the Ct sailors or if they are mixed together...I adopted a sailor in May of 2008 who is a CTN and was in the older barracks...he is now stationed here in Pensacola as a CTN. He has promoted really fast and was frocked E5 this last year...so CT is a good rate!!! It will also keep your son on the smaller of the two bases which is good for staying out of trouble!! hahaha Their school is in a classified building which means access is limited to those with security clearances...and most of his studying will have to be done inside the building as the material he will be studying from is classified. My adopted sailor is on Christmas leave and visiting his family in Maryland...when he returns I will ask him what he actually needed. As you can see everyone has differing opinions on what they need/nice to have/ and like I said ...it might be wise to wait until he arrives and sends you his wish list...truely other than pad locks and civilian clothes....he wont really NEED anything and what he does need he can buy at the NEX (and there is a BIG BIG one on his base)...I also have a MOM friend whose daughter was a CT and she was first stationed on the NAS Pensacola base for orientation and another entry level class and then was moved over to the Corry Base for CT classes...so who knows where he will start out. Every barracks will be different. Also I have a daughter...girls lists can be different from guys lists. My daughter went to A school in Great Lakes and even there she bought bedding...a comforter I think...that was much easier to tuck in and stay...she also bought a blanket so that she could sleep on top of the comforter and not have to re-make her bed. When she transitioned from A-school to her first duty station...she came home on leave and her grandfather passed away...so we drove her to her first duty station in Mayport Fl. We got a phone call from her on the first day on her new ship to come get her and take her to Walmart...for bedding, towels and a pillow. Then after two weeks on the ship ...she was assigned to a barracks and we went back to take her back to Walmart to buy more towels, bedding and pillow for her barracks...so she has double everything...one for the barracks and one for the ship. The one thing she wanted the most...other than the towels...was a matress pad...she was not issued one in A-school or on the ship or in the barracks...she found that pretty gross that she was sleeping on a matress that someone else had slept on. On the other hand...She has been there since May and has accumulated alot of STUFF.... Now we are headed over for Christmas to help her pack up and bring home her extra "stuff"as her ship will deploy in Feb and she must now move back to the ship. Not having anything extra can be blessing!!! hahahaha Robin
