My son is in Gulfport too. He is a Construction Electrician. But I think he can do alot of different things as well.
He is stationed there. I think he likes it there. He's been in for about 3 yrs now. Well, it's been 3 yrs since he decided to join the Navy.

Hello Kamile. I am new to this site, but not new to the Navy. Justin has been in 10 years now, and loves it.He is a construction Electrician also. He and his wife are stationed at Gulf Port. He will be going to Afghanistan sometime in Feb. 2010. This is his second trip over. He was in Iraq when the war started, 03.
I live in the edge of Georgia, but I am a Tennessee girl. I guess I will go by Mary Nelle since we have another Mary-CBers mom. :)

Hi Sally! My son is a diesel mechanic and he will be staying in Gulfport for 2 months, starting in June, before making it to his final destination (wherever that is). Just wondering does the base have internet access or will he have to provide his own? Is there anything else to do there besides golf? Would love for my son to meet your son. Perhaps he will not be so apprehensive about leaving.

Hey Susan, my son also went to Gulfport in June. He will be leaving soon to who knows where. The internet shows alot of stuff to do in Gulfport. We will be there this weekend for a visit, so I hope there is more to do than golf.

Hi Stacey, Let us know where he ends up going. Maybe he'll go to Guam too. Gene likes it there. We're planning on going to Gulfport in the spring when Gene comes back. Let me know how you like it there and just what there really is to do there. According to Gene there's nothing to do except sweat. I'm sure he's wrong!
Have fun.

When I was there, we stayed busy with all the family stuff on base and at the hotels. We did go to see the USS Alabama one day and we went to the Hard Rock Cafe one night. My son got his orders when we were there, he will be in Iraq. Don't know how much more I can say on here. The weather was very pleasant, we had a thunderstorm every night. But I'm from Texas and those in Gulfport were mild.
