Hi! My son just began BC in GL. He is working his way to Fire Control Technician. When he told me what he signed up for I was wondering what they needed fireman on a sub for, but if that's what he wanted to do, I'd support him. Now I am so excited for him. Of course first we must get through BC. I know he'll do great and will be on his way to A school. Would one of you more experienced moms tell me, when my Marine graduated BC he got leave. After my Navy son left I heard they don't get leave after BC they go straight to A School....is that so? Thanks ahead of time.

Jaymee, no one here has broken any OPSEC rules here. We are allowed to talk about home ports and we are allowed to talk about where our boys have been but not how long they will be there or where they are going. Every mom on this site of a sub man is VERY respectful of security issues, we above all want them to be safe. This is not a secure site in that the whole world can read our posts and we are all very aware of that fact.

This is a secure site right, be careful about ports of call.

This is a secure site right? You should be careful what you give away.

You all should watch what you say about destinations, and ports of duty, this is a secure site, Right.................Jaymee.

Thanks for the replies. I might have something confussed because his papers he got when he enlisted said he would spend x amount of time at all three locations.?? I will have to check and see if he is Fire Tech, I know he told me he was, we just had this conversation. Thanks for the info. I would rather him be in Groton for 18 months than Bangor, WA for 32+ weeks.

Our son just received his rating and he is a Fire Control Tech. Will start BESS on Monday. He is very excited about receiving this particular rating.
