OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

my son called and said he might have to have surgery his tendon popped in his wrist he will have at least 4mo in a cast. I am so glad he is still excited about being there and all he talks about is finishing BC I told him to make sure to put that energy into healing and he will be fine

My son was FFD on 10/15.  His new PIR is 11/16.  Only one month to go!!  Thanks everyone.  It was an interesting road and we'll both be happy when he finally says "I'm a Sailor!"

Thanks. I'm pretty active on the Ship 4 FB page, which is where I received a lot of comfort and information. I always thought having a kid in RCU is worse than in basic training, because we as parents have a pretty good idea of what the kids do week to week in basic. But in RCU, we're left in the dark. There's the constant fear of Ship 5 as well.

Congrats to you and your son, Inkiri!

My son was FFD on 9/26 and went to a new division after 10 long weeks in Ship 4 RCU. He'll graduate next week! But I'm going to stay in this group so I can help other worried moms.

My son, Peter, will be picked up by his new division today.  I will be leaving this group, but I will keep all of you in my prayers.  This has been a difficult journey, and it truly breaks my momma heart every time someone new has to join this group.  Thank you for your support through this past six weeks.  God bless you all and your SR's.  Go Navy!

Hello - I was overjoyed when I checked Informed Delivery to see there was a letter from my son who shipped to boot camp on 8/7.  I thought it was the form letter, but the gist of what he said was that they found something medically and that by the time we receive the letter (which was today) he should know whether he is staying or coming home.  I hate not being able to know more, but he seemed upbeat.  He wants and hopes to stay but he said if they send him home he wants to go into firefighter training.  Still breaks my heart that leaving may be possibility.  He did the DEP and has been looking forward to this for the last couple of years.  All he did the year before he left was work out to get himself physically and mentally prepared.  As much as we miss him, I hope he gets a chance to continue.  I just wish we knew more!!!!!

I am new to this group and just read your post. I wish him a speedy recovery - and I wish you lots of sanity!

Seabeemom--

I told my son about your son's mandated two year RCU stay and my son could only groan. He says your son would be much better off going home to recover and go through physical therapy. He thinks he'd have gone insane if he'd spent more time in RCU than he did.

It's good you can be there for the surgery. When is it scheduled? If it's already been done how did it go? Do you know if the psychologist has prevailed?

We're all hoping your son comes home for his sanity and yours.

No problem Sherrifm! I hope that your son has a speedy recovery. We should be getting phone calls this Sunday. It's generally been around 2pm for me in the Central Time Zone. So be ready for it. Also do not worry if we do not get it this time as the staff changes all of the time and they may take away phone calls. Also if someone screwed up they will punish the recruits by taking away more than just the phone calls.
