I didn't gedt a phone call yesterday but I did get one on Tuesday, early am from him. He sounded good but has a cold, says he wishes they did more PT and less folding clothes and cleaning....lol. Imagine that...

Karla, they don't get to make phone calls very often, and no, fo some reason cell phone carriers don't allow collect calls. He should get time for calls tomorrow on Thanksgiving, at least the earlier divisions do (mine is in 28).

My son is Div 043 ship 10, can you give me information, I have not gotten any phone calls but he has talked to his girlfriend. Apparently he hasn't been able to get through because he is calling my cell phone collect but she mailed him a calling card today. I have been pulling my hair out waiting to hear something.

He said something at the time and the response was "what do you want, eagle vision?" It's no big deal he will put his contacts back in as soon as he is in A school, just a couple more weeks. If he was Army or Marines I would worry more about marksmanship and the glasses needed to achieve it, but hey, he's a nuke! They don't mess with small arms!

Maureen, Please have your son let his Medical YN know that he needs to go back to medical for a follow on eye exam. It is not the Navy's practice to issue improper glasses to their Recruits. He probably is a bit scared to stick out by requesting another appointment at medical, but in the long run, seeing is more important than not getting "yelled at" for a few seconds.

I GOT A PHONE CALL!!!! I was SO excited this morning to see that 847 area code. Alan is doing well, and hasn't caught any of the Ricky Crud. He said he passed the live fire stuff, but didn't get a ribbon. I am not surprised since to my knowledge (granted, mom may not know everything) he has never handled a gun before, and he said early on that the glasses they gave him only came close to right, things were still a bit blurry. His division (28)has gotten 3 flags so far, one for scholastics, one for military drill, and one for weapons handling, or something. I guess that means everyone can take their gun apart and put it back together and at least some of the guys can hit more than the broad side of a barn. His ship (10) isn't one of the ones that got invaded by ladybugs. He has passed all his inspections so far, but is resisting the RDCs efforts to turn him into a neat freak! Gotta love my boy, I would settle for not having to wade thru a knee-high forest of dirty clothes just to find his bed! He did say he didn't get the rate he wanted. He is a nuke and wanted ET, but he said they pretty much dealt ET and EM out randomly and he got EM. For some reason, if you are a Nuke, they don't decide before bootcamp which rate you are, MM, EM or ET. At least they didn't for him, and that gets done during the All About You sessions during week 5. Any way, life is good, he is sailing thru boot without any problems either physically or mentally, so momma is HAPPY!

Just spoke to Ben and he said they should get their orders tomorrow or Wed so though he is grad n go he still does not know when he will fly out. Tanya
