Navy For Moms

Submarine moms are special:
--- All of us have boys,
--- Who serve on "boats,"
--- With whereabouts unknown, and
--- We only get sporadic, short emails while they're out (72 days for a boomer)!

Tell us where your sailor serves...

My son, Drew, is a "Nuke" and a MM3 (Machinist's Mate) aboard the USS ALABAMA in Bangor, WA. He joined the crew in April, 2008. Gimme a shout if you're an ALABAMA parent... Roll Tide!

My son, Jared is now on the USS ALABAMA MT1 (Missile Tech) and has been assigned as the Fire Control supervisor. He has taken his Officers exam and passed, now in process of getting all the necessary schooling set up......He was stationed on the USS GEORGIA-729 until it went into conversation.

My son has been on subs 11 years. He spent most of his time on the Jackson in WA. Now he is on the USS Georgia. He just went out on this boat for the first time cruise sence the Return to service ceremony in March. We went down to Georgia to see it. He went from Boomers to Guided Missile. He is also a MT. Nice to hear from other moms of other sub men. My son was so proud when he earned the Order of the Ditch and the Imperium Neptum Regis(shellback).

Jared has been in the Sub Force since 2000-His 1st Sub was USS Georgia-Blue Team. He left that sub for shore duty when they sent it in for conversion from SSBN to SSGN. He is being trained to be able to work between the SSBN's & the SSGN's. These guys really have a lot to be so proud of, they work really hard and the Navy spends so much on their training.....

Hey, I was just in Bangor visiting our son "Bama". I saw "Nuke" briefly. It's nice to put a mom's name with a sailor's face. He and "Bama" work closely together. Have a blessed day.

Too coincidental? I have a son named Andy (they call HIM Drew ) on the Alaabama and he's a MM3

My son Chris will finish missile tech school next week in Kings Bay and then join the Alabama in WA. I'm so proud of him but a little sad as we live in NC. Any info on what he can expect from the boat and the area would be appreciated.

My son is a Chief on the USS Pennsylvania also out of Bangor, WA. He is a Missile Tech. He has been in the Navy 15 years and this is his 3rd sub.

Now I don't feel like the "seasoned vet" anymore... among all these moms with new recruits! Your tenure qualifies you to tell ALL of us how to deal with things. Thanks for responding... Kaye

Hi, my son Terry was on the fast attack sub USS Pasadena for 3 years (based in Hawaii), and they'd be out for 6 mos. Now he's on the USS Alabama. Since we live in Oregon, it's nice to be close.

Wow, Becky! My son is on the Alabama too (see my post above)... is yours on Blue or Gold crew? Drew is on the Blue. What does Terry do?
