Oh Kat! What a gloriously wonderful, silly, fun, loving comment posting!!! And people who are non-Navy ( or Army, or Marine, or Air Force, etc) just simply don't understand the power of that really NEEDED phone call!!! Thank you so much for sharing...my son is on his first deployment and I haven't heard his voice since September 7th and it's killing me!!! Lord what I wouldn't give to be able to write a comment like yours!!! You won't be able to wipe that smile off your face for awhile, so bask in it sweetie!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm SO excited!! I don't even know where to begin so I guess I'll just spill it ALL out from the beggining!! LOL

O.K....so we had a guy out today giving us a quote on getting our roof repaired!! Well...the phone rings and my initial thought was to let it ring since we were discussing 'business'!! Well...living up to my name (the KAT part, LOL) curiosity got the best of me and I grabbed it to see who it was!! OMG...I IMMEDIATELY recognized the area code and answered!! The following is how our conversation went!!

Me: Hello (in a super excited screech, lol)
Michael: Hey Mom...whatcha doin'?
Me: OH MY GOD......I LOVE You
Michael: (while giggling) I Love You, Too!!
Me: OMG WOW (then I seemed to have lost all sense of thing's cuz I drew a blank on what I wanted to say)
Me: (after a second or two) So...how are you?
Michael: I'm good
Me: Good...so is it everything you expected it to be?
Michael: Yeah...pretty much
Me: How's it going for you?
Michael: It's going good....you just do what you're told....and I've been doing ALOT of ironing
Me: So how's that working for ya?
Michael: eh....same ole, same ole I guess (this coming from a Country Boy who used to spend 2 hours pressing a crease in his jeans)
Me: Ah....nothing you ain't used to, huh?
Michael: Nahhhh...
Me: Did you get my letter?
Michael: Yes I did...I sent you one...but it's not long....just a short one
Me: That's fine (while *Smiling* so big I thought my face would surely get stuck, lol)
Me: I mailed you a letter today...but it's not a formal letter it's filled with questions I need answers to
Michael: Oh...o.k....well I can answer some of those right now
Me: O.k.....cool....are you Grad and Go?
Michael: Yes....I only have 2 hours after Graduation then I'm off to San Antonio
Me: O.k....well....then some of the other questions are void now
*we both laugh*
Michael: O.k....so I can have 4 guests on my list....
Me: Yes....that was the next question on the list....I got this idea from My "Navy Mom" forum (he giggled)....since there's 6 of us....do you know of any guys there who might have fewer than 4 attending who would be willing to put 2 of us on their guest list? That would be AWESOME if someone could!!

And then I heard them yell for them to get off the phone!!

Michael: O.k. Mom...I gotta go...
Me: O.k....I Love You
Michael: I Love You, Too.....Bye
Me: Bye!!

I have got to be the HAPPIEST Mommy alive right now!! Ya see....I honestly didn't think I would get a phone call....seriously....I thought they would all go to his GF!! I figured he KNEW we'd be here waiting....but needed to keep the lines of communications open with her to kinda guarantee she would be, ya know?!?

Ahhhhh.....I am on Cloud 9!! And I just HAD to come and share this with ya'll!! Sorry it's so long....but I didn't wanna forget anything and just blabber on like a fool!! lol

Thanks for being my outlet....I REALLY appreciate having ya'll to share this with!! My heart is so filled right now....I can't explain it!!

OH.....and I haven't stopped crying since I hung up the phone and said bye to hubby (who left for work shortly after the call)!! I had to apologize to hubby for not giving him the phone and he said "It's O.k.....I think it was better that YOU took the call....you haven't stopped *Smiling*" I said "You have NO idea what my heart is doing right now....I'm am SO on Cloud 9 and NOONE can bring me down"!! He *Smiled* and said "I have a pretty good idea...."

K....I'm gonna shhhuuuddduuup now....this is SO gonna be L~O~N~G already!!

Huggies To All!!

Katherine - Hello and welcome to N4M. . . I'm like you . . . I wasn't sad I was glad when my son joined the DEP . . . it meant that for 10 months I knew he would walk the stright and narrow so he would be accepted . . . . he spoke of being military (not necessariily the Navy) since he was in grade school. I am glad he picked Navy. I didn't cry when I left him at the recruiter's office (I didn't realize we could go to MEPS but that's kewl . . I don't think he wanted me there taking pics, etc. as I'm sure I would've been doing . . .) . . . PIR is the most awesome-est experience . . . I wouldn't have missed it for the world nor have I been more proud of him. His PIR was a year ago 11/2 and he is currently in Hawaii . . . He's an AE and spoke of maybe wanting to become a pilot . . we'll see . . . thank you son for enlisting . . .

Hi Katherine, What a young man, To know and beieve in what you want to do at such a young age. To follow it thru all the years. What a gift your son gave you. It is not wrong that there are no tears. When I got the box of clothes I laughed. The way they were in the box was as if they had ripped them off his body. I was sure that he wondered what he had gotten into. I was wrong. He knew, and he loved it. That helps.

Hey Katherine (Michael's Mom) - I've been off the site more than on over this weekend due to family being in town. I read your comment and was intrigued by your question. No I don't think its wrong for you not to cry - to feel nothing but the euphoric happiness that your son is able to pursue his dreams! That is so awesome for him - and for you! I can't speak for every mom on the site, but for me...circumstances after my son's graduation from high school made him feel the Navy was his best choice for a future and college. At the time I cried all the time - he's my only child and I really wasn't sure about him being in the military. But over the two years since boot camp graduation, I've seen him grow into a wonderful man who is selff-assured, committed, and focused on what he wants. He is on his first deployment, and is actually enjoying it! I can't say I don't cry (because I do!), but I am so happy he has embraced this and is doing so well. You continue to feel that happiness girl! It's infectious!!! Your comment made my day!

Hi, I am Rita from Magnolia and my son Alex is in BC right now. He shipped on Oct 6th and he will PIR the day before Thanksgiving. Much like Michael's Mom below, he has wanted this all his life and I am just so happy for him. He called Saturday and that was the first call we got from him. He was saying how cold it was, and he will be up there for his A school as well. In fact, before he left, the cold was his biggest worry lol

Hi all! My daughter has been n the Navy 14 months now.I cant begin to tell about the rollercoaster of emotions I have experienced. You newbies will totally enjoy the ceremonies at boot camp graduation just dont go looking for any good Mexican restaurants up there lol.I suggest getting an extra bed or room for your sailors folks, they have so many stories to tell and havent had a real bed to rest on n a very long time.My daughter was n GL from Sept 07 thru Mar 08 and man did they have a bad winter!!!She laughs now and said she didnt plan her enlistment very well to spend winter n the north again...they get to have their cell phones after boot so you get those 4 am calls when they stand outside in 11 degrees for fire drills or busted pipes lol.Anyway, this site is great, wish I had it when she first enlisted but I am glad to have it now.I live just outside of Whitney Tx so feel free to write me.I can totally relate to so many of your questions lol. Good luck yall!

Hi!! My name is Katherine and my son, Michael left for BC on Oct. 7, 2008!!

To give ya'll alittle info....Michael has talked about joining The Navy since he was 3 years old.....he wanted to be like his Daddy who served for 4 years with The Navy!! Then at the age of 6, all he could talk about was being a "Navy SEAL"....he ate it, slept it, breathed it....everything!! When we bought all 3 of our sons' beds (Michael was 11 or 12 at the time) he INSISTED on getting a cot and an old WWll Army blanket and pillow because "I need to get used to it"....LOL...and when he was 14 he bought The Navy SEAL Training Book and lived by it!! To say this child knew exactly what his future held would be an understatement!! So when he was 17 his Dad signed for him as a Delayed Entry and he attended DEP meetings and such!! He originally signed up for the SEAL'S but a few months ago changed his contract to Reserves MA....and that is where we are now!!

I Thank Ya'll for being so Welcoming and I look forward to conversing with you soon!! I do have a quick question for anyone willing to answer.....

Is it wrong for me to have not cried and not feel sad because he's gone pursuing his lifelong *Dream*?? I mean....I miss him....but my outlook is.....he is fulfilling his Passion....something that has been his *Dream* since he was wee little....I'm excited for him and so happy that we get to witness him take the path to his destined career!! Is that wrong?? Am I not normal??

I don't know...maybe everyone reacts differently....but I have NO sadness...just exhilarating happiness for him!! I've not heard from him....just got the 2 second call saying he was there and then his box of clothes!! All other corresponse's has been made to his GF!! I have written him and actually am going to mail off another from me and a card from his youngest brother tomorrow!! I imagine he'll write when he's got time!!

One last thing....from what I understand....his PIR is Dec.5, 2008....and I am SO excited I can't wait!! We are awaiting word from him on whether he is Grad and Go or not so we can finalize our plans and get our trip booked ASAP!!

K.....so.....that's me and my story!! lol

Huggies To All!!

Hi,

I am back Graduation it was awesome . And I was so proud , Sean now has completed Power school and will stay in Goose Creek for the rest of his school. Moms if your Sailor is in SC for Nuke school this school is awesome. And this graduation is so neat. You just can't help and cry. Also for the Moms who first read my message when I went to Great Lakes for Sean's Boot Camp graduation I have to say he has came along way. I am seeing a man grow and mature just like the Navy promised. He is home on leave right now and has called me three or four times -- WOW-- and he offered to come over and go to church with me and his step dad. He will be joining me for lunch tomorrow. I am one luckily mom! I have to tell all I am so proud of my Son. I just want to let everyone know that if you will be going to Goose Creek we stayed at the Best Western in Ladson this is just around the corner from NNPTC. It is the Best Western Magnolia Inn their number is (843) 553-8888 the rates were good and the room were nice not the Hilton but nice and service was good. Just tell them that you received the information from a mom on Navy Moms on line and they said they would give you a good rate. Let them know you are there for your Son or Daughter Graduation. Patriots Point is a great place to visit. And Charleston is full of history. Well my Son is now ready for another chapter in his life Thank You all for being there for me as I also grow with the changes I have to over come while My Son My Sailor, My Hero, continuous his new journey in life. Love to all

Sherry PNM of Sean
