Delete Discussion My son Matt went to BC. He arrived at GL on Tues. 12-9 I just got a call today that he was in a VA hospital for severe headaches... very low BP 79/49 and he is generally not feeling well. So far all the tests come back normal he said. I called his recruiter 2 times and tried to email him to find out more of the situation and no answer. Whats gonna happen to him. Will he get right back into BC when he gets better? He said BC was fine till he got sick with whatever is going on and he has no history of any illness.

Hi Gina,
Im sorry to hear about your son. I hope he is going to be alright. Hopefully once they figure out what is wrong, they will be able to get him on some medicine and he will be feeling better. Then he can go back to BC. Maybe it was something he was allergic to? Anyway, my prayers are with you and your son.

Oh dear. I think that he has to sign some papers so that the doctors can talk to you about him. I'm not sure but think the privacy laws have something to do with it if he's over 18. Try going to the Ship 17 discussion and asking the people there what they think will happen. I have read that when they get better that the Navy puts them in where they belong so they can finish boot camp. I will pray for him. Hope he's feeling better quickly!

I hope that your son is feeling better. I see from your profile that you are from Florida, I kind of think that this may have something to do with him being ill. Let's face it, your never really exposed to cold weather in your part of the country. The wind chill that you can get off of Lake Michigan can really effect a person . I'm sure that all will be well and that this is just a in some way a "right of passage" for you do not know where your boy will be stationed after boot camp. In Navy terms he'll have to "Man up!" I'm sorry to be so blunt.

I'll be praying for your son. Does low blood sugar lower the pressure?

Have you called the VA hospital and talked with his doctors. Your son will have to give them permission to talk to you because of HIPPA but it can be done. The VA hospital is very close to Recruit Training Command.
There have been many moms on here with kids who for some reason or another ended up in the hospital. If you son's condition improves and the doctor's have no reason to medically discharge him, he will go back to boot camp. He won't be in the same division and his graduation date may change but he will graduate.
If they find something wrong with him, they have the option of keeping him in Great Lakes on a "medical hold". The time frame on that option varies.
If it were me, I would call the hospital immediately and talk with the doctor and see if you need to be there with your son. Or if they are planning on releasing him to back to boot camp.
Let me know.
