Darla,
This is the Carl Vinson website. If you go under command info you will see a section marked "Checking In" go to that and it will give you lots of info about what your daughter needs to do to check into the command. There isn't much time to do it this time but next time she transfers it would be a good idea for her to request a sponsor from the new command who can help her get checked in. Most commands have a website and somewhere on there they will have a section for people who are new to the command or just checking in and you can usually request a sponsor there. I hope this helps.

Darla, I am on the carl Vinson. Your daughter will report, and they will put her on the ship. She will live on the ship, unless she chooses to move off and into town on her own, And since we are in the shipyards, living quarters are never fun. everything will be okay.

Hi everybody I hope you all had a nice weekend.
I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with.
My daughter is home on leave until November 4th then she heads to Newport News, VA to report for duty on the Carl Vinson. My questions are:
How does housing work? Does she have somewhere arranged when she gets there already or do we need to do something?
We are very confused and I just want to make sure that she has a place and an understanding of where and what to do.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
D

dyeshome, Both of mine are taking 12/27 to 1/5. I believe the other leave time is the 1 to 2 weeks prior to that.

we drove 700 miles yesterday to come see our son even though they have him working 7 days a week now but we just miss him and had to see him! he has been cranking for 4 months now. even though he likes working in the galley im sure he is ready to get back to his shop and get back to getting all his certifications

Back from an awesome adventure and just want to tell you all that I HIGHLY recommend the Tiger Cruise! I just returned from taking the TC on the Ronald Reagan and what a journey it was. I am sure the CV will offer the same and you all HAVE to do it if you can. I truly respect all of our sailors and airman that serve on our carriers as well as on ALL of our vessels out there! Wonderful experience for sure. The only disappointment was I had the wrong phone # for Molly and didn't get to see her out there as she was watching the commissioning of the USS Makin Island (an assault amphib ship). What a vessel that thing is! Unbelievable stuff in SD right now and they are all awaiting the arrival our wonderful CV!!!!!!!! Got to see BOTH of my sailors out there too!!!!!

Hello all, and Welcome to all our new sailors mom's to the page. This a great group. It has been a while as I have been busy to my eyeballs helping my daughter and her family get settled.
Steven's Grandma G. ( not lake lady) just got back from a week of visiting him in VA. Her and her friend Wanda spoiled him to no end. Home made dinners, Cookies, brownies. LOL It was as though he had two grandmas' there visiting him. He stayed with them everynight at their condo on VA Beach after he got off work. I hope all is going well just had to stop in and say hi.

Have a great week all.
Mom of a Sailors grandson.
