I hope they are in port for Thanksgiving. I think they where out last year.

Kim, are you sure it is 0700. My sons leave has always been 1600 and return at 0700. One time we went to pick him up in Virginia Beach and he had to wait until 1600 to sign out. He should be able to find out.
Last year my son had an early morning flight and the airport is closed at night. A group of them slept outside in a little inlet. He said they built a fire to stay warm.

Cindi - Those Thanksgiving offerings are for everyone on the base in Sasebo, not just the Sasebo sailors.

Kim - Sorry, can't answer that. Maybe Julie knows since her son was home in September.

Does anyone know if a sailor's leave is 0700 on a Monday if they can leave the base on a Sunday evening and go into Fukuoka so they are already there to catch their flight the next day? Hans was told this by one of his colleagues who said this is how it is done. I can change his flight to an early morning flight out but he would have to go to Fukuoka the night before so he would be there on time. Also the flight is better as the other one had him spending the night at JFK airport and would get in the next day.

I am so happy for all the families that will have their Sailor's home for the Holiday's. This will be our first Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years with out Pake. I can't imagine how lonely it will be for Pake and the rest of the Sailors that didn't have and leave time or could not afford to come home. Do any of you ladies know if the USO will provide Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner for the Sailors? I am sure they do but I would feel better if any of you ladies could confirm it. Thank you

Thanks Kim. The best I found was $1600.00. They are willing to hold for 72 hours. The problem is the military discount is full going out of FUK. I have emailed him to find out if he is willing to go out of Nagasaki. It looks like it is a 1 1/2 hour bus ride.
Has anyone flown out of Nagasaki?

Kim, I forgot to say if you call the airlines directly ask for the military discount. It greatly reduces what you pay for the flights.

On the Japan site they have talked about getting longjohns. We have a friend that worked for Ford and lived in Tokyo and said it doesn't get that cold. So I asked Katie about the weather these days. She said 'Yes, it is getting cool but I'm enjoying it. Cause we don't get much snow. Like today in Oki it is warm, humid and raining-more then likely in the 70s. We won't get snow in Sasebo, if we do get any it might be just right at or before Christmas, but I have also heard that we usually don't get any at all.

We're from Michigan, so she is use to the snow and Katie likes the seasons.
