Tina, Sorry to hear James' grandmother pass away. I wish I could help you and answer your question but I don't know what the Navy does in cases like this.

Hoping my son can get home for his grandmother's funeral. Anyone have any experience in this area?

My nephew/godson Jonathan is an officer at Ft Hood. He has already done a tour of duty overseas.

Well I just found out my middle son who is in the Army will be stationed at Ft. Hood when he is done with his AIT. Mixed emotions, he will be closer than South Carolina, but he will most likely be deployed overseas soon after he gets there. But he is happy and that is all that matters.

Kim - it sounded like (via my daughter Katie) that the Essex would be back by Thanksgiving.

Congrats Julie! I am so pleased for your family. I know it will be a challenge to plan a wedding but you and your daughter will have so much fun together. Again, congratulations and keep us posted.

Hey Gals
Haven't been on in awhile, considering the way this past year has gone for our family with all the illness', injuries, and my mom passing away I am so thrilled to be able to FINALLY write a post that is something positive with good news for a change. My daughter called to tell us it's official! Check out what she got a few days ago

Not too shabby huh? Two carat total weigh. Her girlfriend texted her and asked her if her knuckles were dragging on the ground. LOL So now we have a wedding to plan but I told her before I didn't think we could afford a wedding AND a trip to Japan both in one year. So I am not sure how this is going to work out...we'll have to wait and I guess. Before he actually proposed she said they would have a long engagement (a couple years) but boy now that she has the ring it like everything has flipped to fast forward. Seems like she must be worried about him changing his mind or something. LOL
