Hello Sonji and welcome to the group. My son is an OS which is Sonar.

Hello everyone. My name is Sonji and my daughter Savannah has been aboard the USS G.H.W. Bush since January. Her main job was supply and now she is doing maintenance and firefighting for a year (I think these areas were short staffed). She is enjoying her job, but is looking forward to her first deployment which may be a while. I wish the were back at Norfolk. Don't care much for the shipyard area. She just had a low spot where something was stolen from her, but she is keeping a positive attitude about the whole thing and not letting it affect her. Glad to see there are other CVN 77 moms out there.

Can I brag about something then too? We recently got a note from Jesse's captain telling us that he had been chosen "Avenger of the Week" for developing a help desk website for the ship. I made him send me a copy of the article from the ship's newsletter so that I could put it in the scrapbook I am making for him, along with the captain's note. Stuff like this does indeed make a mama happy -- and very proud!

Love it when moms brag about their kids. At least I'm not the only one! It gives them a cheer corner when times are low for them and nothing goes their way.

Greetings! My son is an MM (Machinist Mate). He will be doing maintenance on the non-propultion(?)sp.. type mechanical items such as elevators, air conditioners and other like things.
He has called me a couple of times and is very happy and excited about his future. Today someone re-upped! They all went out to eat at a local resturant and celebrate, then they had the rest of the day off. I've never heard him be so positive about his future. He is very eager to take more classes and further his education as well. This makes the mama very happy. :D

Colleen,

Congrats to your husband and the best, most positive energy to you. Let's have a cocktail in celebration. I am currently having a Mike's Hard Pomegranate Lemonade and with it, I drink to the moms, dads, spouses, friends, and others who support the fabulous sailors on the Bush! I will be delighted to switch to a chocolate martini, if I must :-).

Now, you have to be careful with the chocolate martinis. I have had a couple of different kinds. One tasted like it could strip the finish from furniture, but I drank it to get to the Hershey's kiss on the bottom of the glass. If I had been smart, I woud have left the drink and gone to the grocery store to buy a whole bag of kisses! The other was absolutely delicious--tasted like chocolate milk, except it packed about the same punch as the other one.

My Aidan is home on leave right now. We are relaxing and feeding him good food. His Dad is in the kitchen baking chocolate chip cookies right now--yum!

Ok, so I was at a meeting today to discuss homelessness and someone brought up the fact that the local Hospice was doing a fundraiser today called Martini's and Manicures. Someone else said "Well, Chocolate would be good" and it made me think about our conversation on here a while back about Chocolate Martini's. Hmm, its been one of those kind of weeks and it's only Wednesday. On the bright side, my hubby was offered a great job today making about 3 x what he is now. It's been a long dry spell for us; about 9 years, maybe more. Hope all is well. Haven't heard results of my biopsy yet, but the way I see it, no news is good news.

I've been reading some of the ads put mostly in the women's mags, sorry fellas; and am so glad we have a forum to support our sailors and each other. Perhaps the Navy should think about an ad campaign that says NavyForMoms is not just for Moms. Dads, brothers, etc are some of the most proud family members out there. As family we get a glimpse of what our kids are willing to do in a "What About Me" generation, not only to further their lives, but the lives of every American by stepping up.
Hope everyone is having a great Monday.
