Alright, I'll make plenty. I don't want to get political on here, but is anyone planning to go to the 912 party in DC? It's next Saturday. My hubby and I will be getting up early and attending.

Anyone for a Long Island Iced Tea? That would definitely get this holiday weekend nice and mellow

That's right Nancy - we and our Sailors are 'all in the same boat' -ha!
You are not alone. We all have our issues to deal with - good & bad.
It is discouraging and depressing and disheartening though.
I'm with ya Sista!
We'll just try and hang in there together!

I feel so much better knowing everyone is having the same issues. Now I'm not as mad. I can't believe another car broken into this is crazy.

Audrey - I read that discussion several months ago, and yes it is very informative. If anyone hasn't read it, it explains what we as parents can do to not sabotage our sailors' safety when we are on this and any other site.
Cindy- I hear you. You'd think that I teach financial literacy (among other things) mine would have a leg up, but no, Mom still doesn't know anything. Enjoy Finn, I'm sure with the love you will give him, he will come around very nicely. And yes, A Happy Labor Day to all.

All of my recent discussions with my lad have been about money and how to be smarter. I asked if there was a financial advisor he could talk to - he needs help for sure. I wish there was a regular source that could really help these kids - they sure could use it. I think they should be FORCED to go to financial planning classes REGILARLY. Let's face it - if they learn to spend more wisely and are able to get sound advice - they will make a better Sailor - blends to everything else - I believe that. He wants my help but, hard to do it from so far away. Besides, give them advice all we want - they are impulsive and the consequence isn't great enough to start with - it's when they are really in amess that they HAVE to do something - too late by then - damage done.
The lads Jeep got broken in to - stole everything including a guitar his Dad and I had given him a couple years ago for Christmas. I had to tell him to file a police report! He'll probably never get it back but, at least they can watch pawn shops, etc. Things is the criminals in that area are smarter - much more - than their victims - they know how to come out ahead and have learned all the tricks. Our kids are their own worst enemies - tell my lad that all the time. UGH! Frustrating!
I wish their was an on base service that could help track their accounts and notify them with warnings or even require they take a course to resolve their bad spending habits. Like I said - without immediate consequence it happens again and again and again. I realize the Navy is not a babysitting service but, I think such a program would help everyone. We tried while they were at home, they had the worksheets in BC - not enough for most of them. It requires constant attention until it becones habit and a lifestyle. So many have to learn the hard way and so much money and time is wasted. What a shame! I too wish I had all those overdraft/service charges! Tis sure I could take a wonderful trip - maybe even out to visit my Sailor! HA!
Oh well, we will keep trying from a distance folks!

Have a great Labor Day weekend everyone. We have a huge celebration in our town, parade, carnival, talent show, beer tent with bands, history museum open, BBQ chicken dinner at the high school, etc. I am on the Historical Society board so will be busy with those duties, plus our family all gets together at my sister/brother-in-laws and have a huge feast - we all bring something.
Oh and I even get my Collie from Collie Rescue tomorrow. I'll have to post a pic when I am able. I am so excited. He is 7 year old blonde colored rough Collie. I am renaming him Finn (short for Finnegan) - in Irish it means 'little blonde soldier' and that is exactly what he looks like from one of the pictures they sent me. He didn't spend much time with people, so the name change should be easy since he will be with me every day after I return home from work. He was not taken care of - matted badly that hindered his walking and even had a hernia. DUH! Some people should NOT have pets! He's all fixed up now and ready for a new forever home. I had a Collie as a young girl and have wanted another one ever since. Hope it all works out!
Enjoy the weekend everyone! Prayers for all our Sailors!
