Ant's mom,

I know that's true (no easy fixes). Barbara and I have been talking about HOPE and I didn't mean to sound trite. Chris may not be an animal lover at all. I'm very glad you heard a tiny bit from your sailor. I know all about one-liners.

We all miss our sailors even though we're proud of them. It's not easy for them to be separated from family and friends either.

Heatherose - I was just fortunate to get a brief barely 1 liner from Ant. And I know he is quite the dog lover. I have not heard again since the last 1 liner. It has been 2 long years for him, first on the Kitty Hawk and then crossdecked to the GW. He married right before going to Japan and had to work his way up to E4 before he could request for Commandsponsorship. This was very hard on the marriage. My daughter-in-law lived with me for those 2 years. They finally got the permit and then she decided not to go. Just was a very sad situation.
There are a lot of in's and out's to the Navy and you just have to learn as you go and try and get info from others experiences. I just know it is hard on Barbara and there are no easy fixes.

Thomas' mom is right, this is a great website to get started. Debbie on the site is wonderful to help and talk with. Actually the official adoption application comes from Lackland Air Force base. This is the main place. I tried calling the individual bases in TX and LA but that strategy did not work for me but I think works better in other areas. This is explained on the site. There is a process but worth it. There are things that need to improve, that is what Debbie is platforming for. If you need help contact her or let me know, can tell u my experience. Basa is our dog, soon to pick up at San Antonio. The pic's of the dog is what brought my Ant out to communicate.

FYI my son's rackpack was embroidered with his name and someone literally took it right off the hooks. :(

Just wanted to add to the theft thing. Anything w/o a sailors name on it can get stolen if left out. The curtains also unless w/ the embroidered name. Wish that was an option when I was on a ship. Yes, even undies and shower shoes. Gross i know, but it does occur. So remind your sailors to lock everything up; even if they are gone from their rack for 30 seconds.

Claudia, thanks again for the picture of Ryan. I spoke with him a few minutes ago and told him about the pose. He thought that was really funny. I also told him to thank Chip for me too. Just to see him really made mine and the husband's day.

Claudia, this is the web address www.militaryworkingdogadoptions.com. This site gives all the information. It is a great program. Keeps the animals from being euthanized. Isnt that awful. Euthanizing a military veteran...Ugh!!

Judi,
The rackpacks have their names embroidered on them. I think the theft is more things like cameras, dvd players, i-pods and things like that which can be easily hidden and sold. It is pretty bad when it comes to things like that.
