BigDMom - That is so wonderful to hear about your sailor. I am so glad he is recovering well and had the help. It is good to know that they help each other. I watched part of the Hulu.com carrier videos. It was great to watch and get some inside info to better understand what they go through. I am assuming that the GW is underway, is that the current stat?

Well after a week in Yokasuka she was finally flown out to the GW!!She called last night, and said the girls in her berth have taken over her locker and wont take their stuff out of it!!She is living out of her sea bag. Asked if she complained to anyone, she said no "its the weekend" ?! Does anyone have any advise for this? She also told me that all communication from the ship is blocked due to where they are going-no yahoo, facebook,my space, skype,or hotmail!!That is really gonna suck-don't like the idea of not being able to talk to her!!Got her address, so I guess thats what my son and I are gonna have to utilize.Have a good day!!

One of my son's friends from high school has joined the Navy wanting to be in Airfield OS. Does anyone know what that means? I looked at Navyspeak and it didn't have anything on it.

Lynn that series is called Carrier and it originally aired on PBS a couple of years ago. It took place on the USS Nimitz. It's a very good series and really shows what life us like for them on the ships. It used to be on the PBS websit also, PBS.org. I liked it so much I bought the DVDs. I highly recommend it!

Let's take this pregancy discussion to another level and deal with the cold hard facts - and I'm speaking from experience here. You're not guaranteed to have the baby because of medical conditions unbeknown to you or the baby; the father could be there in the beginning but walk out on the mother and the child later; the financial responsibilities associated with raising a child - just think how much $$$ we have spent on our own children; and finally if they end up being a single parent - God have mercy! These are hard facts that I have given my daughter...but all in all, it's in their hands but please include this in you counseling them - trust me - they will appreciate it! Final words of wisdom to them, "Do not bring a child into this world unwanted or just because you were having sex - please protect yourself!" Very passionate about this subject...

My son called and said that if i really want to see what really goes on during deployment that i should watch this PBS special. I only watched 1 out of 10 but it was very interesting. The site is Hulu.com and you press in carrier

My son said they are told all the time about protection and this is for both sexes. They need to be reminded not only for when on ship but off also.

Welcome Denise and Jan.
Thanks for the reminders of birth control, but I also want to say that if they are having unprotected sex a baby is probably the sweetest result. I worry about STD's and think we can remind both sexes about that!

My daughter just went on birth control to prevent from getting pregnant which tells me that she found someone she really likes. She turned down a lot of guys back home. I think some of them might get pregnant because then they might get re-assigned stateside.

Yeah, that's what my son said... he was TAD for most of this deployment. He's glad to be back in his shop. :)
