Information

USS Theodore Rossevelt CVN 71

If your sailor calls this ship home or will be calling it home in the future - it would be nice to touch base and learn about what to expect while under way. Especially for those of us Moms that are new to having children leave with the fleet

My sailor moves today into an apartment with 2 of his AO buddies! He's so excited about having a room that's all his own but mostly having a BIG bed!!! Just listening to him ramble on about what they have to go buy for the place makes me giggle. I laughed so hard when he told me about the guys shopping trip for the big 46" TV and how they haggled over the price and size of what they wanted. This is a good feeling to finally know that he has made a place for himself in this world! I think of you all often and pray that everyone is doing alright.

It's good to read the update's on our sailors...
My sailor will be home Sunday for a 2 week visit, then back to Norfolk.
Were still not sure which ship he is being put on next, but he knows he is getting put on a couple of different ones and possibly deploying with one of them. Glad to hear everyone is doing good.

Hi everyone, I did a disappearing act on you....lol

Well, Shin will be home in Aug, sometime after the the 8th. He is a procratinator too. He is trying to get some things done, but he is his fathers son....LOL

I probably won't be on here much longer. I am going to miss it, but I will be on facebook.

I am trying to finish up my online school now. It will be easier having my family back together again.....I am pathetic and I know it.

Well, it has been great to read about what everyone is up to and how their sailors are. Hang in there.....our kids will come back to us someday....maybe not the same as when they left.....but hey, are we the same as we once were?

Love and hugs to all, all of you are always in my prayers.

It's good to hear from you Nannie, Daniel will be doing shore duty for the next three years, he's got to wait to get off of the ship until October, he'll go to school in Pensacola, then he will be recruting here in Butler, PA which is not far from our house. He says he'll live at home but I suspect he will get an apartment in Butler, He was just home for 10 days and we got to eat dinner with him two times. He get's funny too when he's home, he's a procrastinator too, he always has been. However, I'm really proud of him, most of the TR staff applied for Bone marrow donation, Daniel was a match for someone and will be going to DC to donate in August. He had a very good friend die of Leukemia and I think it made an impact on him. His match is a woman with non hodgkins lymphoma. I'm very proud. Give Patrick time, he'll get used to civilian life again. Take care and God Bless, it's good to hear from you!

Okay - Nannie here. (aka debby)

Just wanted to update you about what's been going on with Patrick.

He officially got out of the navy on June 2, 2009. The first month was just his 30 day separation leave. He stayed and hung around in Norfolk until the 15th when he finally made his way back to California.

Its been different. The first few days was great. Then he started getting quiet. On edge and cranky. See home is not his childhood home - we've moved since he joined the Navy and we're 4 hours away from his school friends and all. He knows no one here! After one day of him telling me, that I annoyed him (I did nothing to deserve that rude statement) I just gave him his space - One evening I stayed up to watch TV with him and he started telling me heart to heart that it is a lot of changes for him and it's a bit stressful not knowing what to expect. I knew that, but maybe I forgot how much change this is all for him, after 5 years.

He procrastinated in Norfolk about getting things done - so he's playing catch up. He registered for college and now has to take his placement tests. He needs to go to the GI BILL website and get that going for the funds and all. He just waits till the last minute.

He also had his car transported home and we're still waiting on that. Cost him $950! They told him 8-10 days and today is the 11th day!

He has to find an apartment, take placement tests, get the GI money coming in, maybe find a part time job, move again, and get a new bank. Its funny, he is still wanting to "hold on" to Navy federal, even though we do not have one here.

I just don't know. It definitely is a transition they go through after they get out. He sitll keeps in touch with a few shipmates on the TR. His best friend now has shore duty for the next 4 years.

I hope this finds you all well. I'd love to hear what's going on with your sailors since April 18.

Take care and God bless.

Hi all,

I just thought I'd let you all know how our weekend went with our adopted sons and daughters.

(Saturday June 20, 2009)

We had a great evening with Savannah (Navy Wife), Brandon (NAS Oceana), Erene, and Trever (USS Gunston Hall). We ate hamburgers, chips, and cream cheese brownies and ice cream. We played RISK (haven't played that in a long time)! Then we closed with sharing prayer requests and taking turns praying for them. We all had FUN! Check out the new pictures on our profile page slide show.

(Sunday June 21, 2009)

Had a great Father's Day! Yvonne was up at 5:45 a.m. making cheesecake and homemade bread dinner today to be celebrated with Sarah (daughter) and Brian (son-in-law), Trevor (USS Gunston Hall), Branden (NAS Oceana) and Savannah (Navy Wife), and Erene (civilian). Sarah and Brian got me a tripod for my camera (that's why I'm in this group photo). We watched "Time Changers" while Yvonne finished fixing dinner. A good Christian movie! Interested in time travel? Dinner included a pork loin roast, peas, and rice, that were great! But then came the cheese cake for dessert! MMMmmmmm! Need I say more?

Hi Everyone. So busy with baseball and summer I rarely get on any more. Sam moved to the barracks yesterday...She did send me a text before moving and then one after she had a hot shower and relaxed. She said it was awesome to have internet in her room so she will be spending a lot of time on her lap top. I take pictures at the games and post them on my facebook so she can keep up with her little brothers.

I am guessing for now she will stay assigned to the TR. You never know.

My goodness, marriage? That is huge. I so, do not want my Meaghan to go there yet. Debbie Jo, I admire you for being so together. I think I feel as I do because I really don't think my sailor is ready to take that leap. Especially with whom she is with currently. I am not overly religious - I do pray that she takes it very slow when it comes to saying "I Do". I rushed it and ended up divorced. Not to say that sometimes it doesn't work out because it can. You all know what I mean? I have a bad feeling about this guy that's all. Mother's intuition.....I think at work here. Ok........moving on. I am so sick and tired of the rain here in Maine!
