Vicki, that's great that your Brian will be home for the holidays!! Yes, waiting to go to school is tough. I remember my Bryan waiting in GL from the end of April to June before he went to VA. Then he spent nearly 3 yrs there!! Went to school & was stationed there. How weird that your son-in-laws family sat right behind you at PIR!! Must have been fate!! Sounds like a true love story with Sarah & her husband, I'm very happy for them!! And it's nice that dad "approves" of him. Yes, I'm not sure when I will see my son again, but we talk a couple times a week, so it's not so bad. I'm just trying to figure out what to send him for Christmas this year.

Thanks Barb, Glad your son was able to spend Thanksgiving with "family". It was a very nice Thanksgiving here, and looking forward to seeing Brian again over Christmas for 2 weeks. He wasnt here for either holiday (was in BC) last year and I dont know when he will be here again for the holidays so i am very appreciative of the time we have this year. Brian is a GM - Gunners Mate. He is suppose to go to C School for verticle launching systems but he doesnt expect to class up before March. And no, i have not met Sarah's husband, although i do have pictures of his family as they sat behind us at PIR and we didnt even know it (or them) at the time. They signed up together, went through BC together.... he went to FL... she went to Fl.... he went to CA... she was trying to get VA... he gave her a ring and asked her to try for CA. She did, she went, they married, she deployed! Her dad went on the Tiger Cruise and met him when they returned (mid October) and he said "he is a really nice boy". He is from this area and they expect to return next Spring around thier first anniversary to renew vows and celebrate with family :-)

Sounds like you had a nice Thanksgiving, Vicki!! Have you met Sarah's husband yet? What does your son do in the Navy?Sounds like you had a houseful. Bryan spent the holiday with his girlfriend & her grandparents in San Diego.

Hi Ladies, Well, my son made it back to Lemoore today. He had a 2 week leave flew to VA to see his girlfriend first, then to PA to see us!! It was a wonderful visit!!! He lost so much weight, though!! Hopefully, he will be able to gain the weight back. Anyway, his girlfriend & him drove from VA to CA....she moved to San Diego ( yay!) I'm not sure when I'll see him again, but maybe I'll have to try to fly out there sometime next year!! Annie, it is comforting to know that you like Lemoore. I hear the air quality there isn't the best....alot of people have sinus problems. We have them here in PA where I live, also. Anyway, Denise, how was homecoming? I think my son said he knows your son. Can't wait to hear about it!

Hi Annie, my husband and I have been to Lemoore twice now. I'd like to say that my daughter n law had something to do with some of those signsyou saw. Her and some of the other wives also fixed up the barricks for the sailors before they came home. Something nice for them to feel welcomed home.

No, I won't be going to homecoming. It's been a little rough financially for us this year, but my son says he is going to take leave, so I've been looking for airplane tickets for him to fly to VA first to see his girlfriend. Then I may need to drive down there to get him, but I don't mind cuz we are from PA. I just can't wait to see him!! That's great that your father-in-law is going on the TC & you & your husband will be at homecoming. I'm going to try to look at it on the webcam. Vicki, homecoming is when the ships come back to port here. Hope that helps!

Hi everyone! I hear from Sarah mostly via email. her dad is going on the TC with her. I am SO JEALOUS! I wanted to at least fly out and meet the ship but spent $700 on the cat last month. There went that plane ticket and hotel room :-(
Mostly sad because i havent even had a chance to meet her husband yet. They met in BC and married a month before she deployed. Crazy. TAD - Temporay Assigned Duty. But what is homecoming?
Denise Gilhaus Comment by Denise Gilhaus on September 29, 2009 at 10:42pm
Yes I am going to homecoming. My father in law is going on the TC and my husband and I are flying in on the 19 and will be staying at his aunt's house which is about 20 minutes from the base. Will you be going to homecoming?
