Navy For Moms

Hi Moms,

It was suggested by Angie to start a discussion for our seperate bases, since there are so many bases in WA. My son is now with VQ-2

I actually have two takers - a guy and a girl. I'm planning a big home cooked thanksgiving meal for them and they are even spending the night! I could manage a few more if they are interested but I'm happy to do for even one if that was all there was!

I am so grateful for all I have and I just want to share it with others. My son is at sea for Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I told my son I could 'find' him a place to go for Thanksgiving, but he'd already had 3 invites from folks he works with. I remember when I was a kid and my dad was in the Air Force and we were living in Germany, my dad would always invite the guys in his unit that were single and had nowhere to go. Mom would fix a big dinner and the guys were nice enough to 'entertain' my sister and I. (I was the oldest and 8 when we came back to the States). One thing that happened that you might want to keep in mind. A couple of times, the guys ate dinner on the base before coming. They didn't want to appear to be gluttons and pig out at our house, so they ate ahead of time....we had far too many leftovers, heheheh.

Well we had a wonderful dinner last night with the two sailors from Whidbey! I stuffed them until they cried uncle! We had a fire going it the fireplace and watched a movie after dinner. They spent the night and both claim to have slept like babies. Today my husband took them up into the mountains with some friends for some target and skeet shooting! They were really excited about that. I packed them all lunches and sent them on their way. Now I'm turning my turkey carcas into a big pot of soup which we will have for dinner when they get back. Then when they head back to Whidbey tonight I am sending each of them off with a good bag of leftovers and home made cookies! It was such a wonderful time and I feel really blessed to have been able to do this.

Love you Navy Moms!

Mary Jo I got goosebumps reading your post. You and your husband are AWESOME! Thank you so much for being such a blessing to those sailors and showing them how much they are cared for and loved. Sounds like a wonderful day, wish I was there.

God bless you.

I just got word from Michael last night he's been approved for leave for Thanksgiving. So it took about two seconds to book his flight - LOL - I'm so excited. Thank God for prayers answered. I will keep the rest of you in my prayers and hope you hear something soon. I'm on cloud nine..

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families in Texas!

Hi Moms.

Our son is w/ vaq-133. We are heading up there next week to spend some time with him, his fiancee and her little girl (early holiday celebrations). I wanted to check and see if there were any special events going on in the area that may not have been listed on the islands events calender or other fun, interesting things to do that we could do with them while we are there.

Thanks and have a great day.

Jeanette, you will have a wonderful time with Alex. Susan knows all the happenings in that area.

Hey Susan, we need you here!

Thanks Karen!
I will check to see what the fun activities in the area are...

Jeannette... When do you arrive? Are you coming through SeaTac? Renting a car? Sailor picking you up? Where are you staying??? Stay tuned... will be back shortly with a list of things to do....

Susan, I lost the thread or I would have answered sooner. We will be up there this weekend, heading up tomorrow as a matter of fact. The kids have an apartment so we will be staying with them. Funny thing is right after I posted the request, the kids sent me a list of all the stuff they have planned for us. I don't think our visit is long enough for all the things on their list.
But, I am open to all ideas on things to do for future visits too.
thanks
