My YN2(SW) daughter has been named Junior Sailor of the Quarter at the Naval-Support-Facility-That-Must-Not-Be-Named. In making the announcement, the CO also named her as being his next secretary.

well my son finish school and got verbal orders but i guess the time apart was to much for his wife and she wants to get a divorce. so much for his hard work to get them someplace together. but he is happy with where he is going.

I am new to this list and just read the last post... gosh, I am surprised a Yeoman is going to Iraq. I guess he is back by now. Wondering how that went and what he did whild in Iraq? My son is in basic training right now.

I am new to being a Navy wife and I'm trying to prepare myself for anything that might come up in the future....if any one could give me advise on yeomans....such as, how long they usually go out to sea, what to expect as far as communication when their gone, can they take computers with them when they go, or any other helpful stuff, would be AWESOME :) sounds stupid I know, but like I said I'm new to this :) Thanks everyone!!

my son is in mississippi and started school today. he has been in the navy for 2 years now. he was in japan for one on the years. he wanted to be back in the states to be with his wife and daughter.

My son was a Yeoman for 5yrs in Pearl Harbor for 3 and in Lemoore, Ca. with the Black Aces where he got to go out on deployment with his suadron, thr Plack Aces. It was an awesome experience and his c.O.'s and Chiefs encouraged him to better himself and wanted him to be an officer. He applied for and got a NROTC scholarship and now will be commissioned as an officer in 2 years. You just never know where that initial job can take you. You moma s are right to encourage them to get all the training they can. My son is getting a free college edcuation out of it and now has his sights set on becoming a Naval Flight Officer. If he sticks with it, he can retire in his early 40's. How many of us retired in their 40's? I am still working at 52. HaHa!!With the economy like it is an djobs scarce, the Navy is great employer and they encourage education and training to better oneself!! Good luck to your sailors in their future endeavors, I am proud my son was a Yeoman!!

My son has been a Yeoman for 9 years now and he really likes it. He is currently stationed at the Pentagon getting ready to transfer to a Shipp out of San Diego.

Anyone familiar with the Defense Courior Division? They take on YNs as couriers for classified documents:
"A courier is entrusted with America's most highly classified and sensitive information. In addition to over-the-counter service at our stations, couriers escort and hand-deliver classified material to customer locations throughout the world. A large percentage of courier missions are one-day (out and back); other missions may be two to three days or longer. Deliveries are accomplished using a multi-modal transportation network: contracted commercial flights, military airlift, or surface transportation. Couriers also perform additional duties not directly mission related, such as station operations, administration, and vault duties. Each of USTRANSCOMs Defense Courier Stations is unique in its duty hours, number and duration of missions, and additional duties."

Sounds like interesting work. Not your typical 9 to 5 office job.
