Just a note: Must eat at the Rainforest Cafe... Food was delicious and a very generous portion...The atmosphere is great and if you have little one they will love it. It is located by parking lot C of the Gurnee Mills mall.

Good afternoon- I just returned from my son's PIR (Memorial Day Weekend). I know that next time around I will stay in the city and have my sailor take the train into the city. I did not rent a car and the cab fares get to be very pricey-believe me t…

The Days Inn Great Lakes was FAR less than $100. It was only $64.99 plus tax a night and they give a discount to Navy Moms and Dads on top of it! It's only 1 mile away from the base and 5 miles from the Gurnee Mills Mall and Six Flags. They have an…

Try the Homeward Suites in Linconshire. Our PIR is June 5th. We made reservations on-line and with a AAA Discount got a 1-bedroom suite for $85. (2 double beds). Linconshire is south of the base. Not sure about what is available locally but as long…

The Comfort Inn was less than 100 dollars last year. Now I don't know what their prices are this year, but I can't imagine that it has changed a whole lot. Wow, we had such a great time. You will really be amazed.

I've been reading reviews on many hotels in the area, and unless you can afford over $100 it sounds like they are pretty crummy! We can't afford expensive hotels, any other ideas? Thx

I am from Silverhill, Alabama and my son Dustin was in the Navy. He was given a medical discharge in November 2008. He had alot of problems with his knee. He is doing well and I am glad he had the opportunity to be there for a little while and get a good experience. He also made some new friends that he does stay in touch with now. Annette, I was just on the A school group and saw that at the end of July Dustin was having some problems with his knees. I didn't know this until just now. How is he doing? What did the specialist say about recovery? Also, remember Adam down in Goose Creek. They are under hurricane security and starting Friday they will be contained in their dorms until the storm passes. If it were to get really bad, they will evacuate to Ft. Jackson in Columbia, SC. But aren't expecting much from Hannah, don't know what to expect from the next two coming, though. Keep me posted on Dustin. Praying for a great recovery!

Hey, sorry I haven't been in contact, things have been crazy! Joe was able to come home last weekend on a illness chit (I think) to see Granny, we left for vacation Sunday and just got home. My Granny passed away Wednesday night. We cut our trip short, thank God we were close enough to be able to make it back. Joe is on his way home for the service.
Sorry Dustin has been unable to come home, that recruiter's leave isn't as easy to get as it sounded, is it?
Hope you are feeling better!
Talk to you soon.

Hi Annette,
What a wonderful time we had at the pre-P.I.R. gathering at Flanagan's. You are terrific for organizing the party! It really was wonderful to meet a lot of the mothers I'd been talking to regularly. Check out my pictures, I have one of a group of us outside the restaurant!
Congrats to Dustin!!! I am so proud of our Sailors!!

XO,
Melanie

Hey Annette! Thank you so much for putting our dinner together. It was absolutely wonderful! You are awesome! I really enjoyed getting to meet everyone and get to know them. I wouldn't have traded it for the world. Thank you again for all the hard work you put in for the dinner. And kudos to the folks at Flanagan's for accomodating us. The service was great!

Congratulations to all of our new sailors and their families! Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend. My son Jonathan will not be graduating with his division due to surgery. He will complete BS when he is allowed to return to training and then graduate with another division, hopefully 1-2 weeks. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. Have a wonderful "gathering" and a terrific PIR. Way to go Sailors!!!
