Pam, Sorry - I've been so busy & haven't had a chance to log on. My mother lives with us, and has advanced emphysema, so is on the computer most of the time (as that's really all she has to do), so I just get on when I can. Hope all has been going...

Diana, We went to Navy graduation 8/29/08. It is a very memorable event. Here's some sights you might find useful. Most of the hotels should have some info about things to see in the area, plus your son will probably have heard of some sights that...

hello Ailene,
My sailor is in Meridian, he will be an AZ and is considering Oceana as one of his picks. Can you tell me what your sons first impression has been. Any info at all would be helpful. Thanks so much!
I'm seriously thinking about it - I haven't gotten much response (only you!), but I really feel such a strong pull to go and participate. The wreath-laying in on December 13th at 11:00 AM. If you want to go, I would love to meet you there. You do know where the Houston National Cemetery is, right? Cuz it's a pretty good ride from you down in Deer Park. No matter - I would love to do it and if you want to go, I will PM you my cell phone number so we can meet up that day!

I met your son today. Sorry, I am not sure which one he is! I met so many. If he graduated today, I will have his picture up for you later. He said you know me from this site.
Thanks for the support Ailene. Having only had daughters, I never really ever gave it any thought that I would have one join the military. Will let everyone know how it goes on Thursday.
Good Morning Ailene! No, since he will still be a recruit, they gave him a "definitely not" on his request to see his sister graduate...he's not happy, but maybe she'll be able to see his! She stays at GL for A School, so she'll be right there! I'm glad you'll be at the Meet & Greet...even if you arrive after we start, don't worry, I think there will be several coming and going! I can't wait to meet everyone! :) Make it a great day!! Kathy
Hi Ailene! Will you be able to make PIR on the 29th? If so, be sure to go to the "Event" tab at the top of the page and RSVP for the Meet & Greet on the Thursday before! We're all getting together for dinner and conversation!
My daughter, Sara Jane, is on Ship 09 Div 311. She graduates with your son on the 29th! My son will graduate the following Friday! Glad you're here! :) Kathy

I'm married with 2 children & 1 granddaughter. My son (who recently enlisted) is my youngest, and it was so hard to watch him leave; but we are SO proud of him, and can't wait to see him at boot camp graduation (coming up on 8/29/08).

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was proud
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
PATIENCE !!!!! My son now lives on the Navy's timetable (not mine). Also, how my son's voice can be the sweetest sound on Earth.
