Bob's on his way home. Flew from P'cola to Charlotte, NC. Just boarded for 2nd leg of trip, Charlotte to Phoenix. I've gotten texts and one brief exchange on skype--he sounds excited to be headed home. Poor boy is going to be hugged to death (by me…

Anabel, my son was the same about his uniform. Everywhere we went, he headed to the rest room, not to pee, but to check his appearance. He used to just step out of his jeans, leaving them in a pile on the floor. We'll see while he's home over Christ…

MamaBear--that's nice to know. My son has a red-eye flight back to P'cola, with a 2.75 hour layover in NC. I was going to talk to him about taking advantage the USO. Now I definitely will talk to him about it. Anyone that can step in and take care o…

Betty--sometimes it takes a day or two for them to get settled in and then they get to call. As others have said, if anything were wrong, the Navy would have contacted you. Your new mantra is "No News is Good News". It's difficult, I know (my son jo…

Bethany, trust me, it will get better once he is out of Boot Camp and on to A school. I 'talk' to my son, via text messaging and/or Skype, nearly every night. He'll be able to call you when he gets a cell phone. Hang in there, it will get better! Me…

If I had the time, I think I would go sit at the airport to watch all the 'reunions' that are going to be happening the next couple of days. Counting the hours until I get to see my sailor again. Enjoy your time with them everyone!

Navy beats Army yet again! It was fun experiencing the rivalry between my ex-Army husband and our Navy son. Thank goodness for modern technology that allows us to 'chat' with him while he's on the other side of the nation.

Bob's shirts smelled just like him--Old Spice deodorant, little bit ot his 'sweat' smell (but not B.O.). Yesterday I finally picked up the last of his dirty laundry from his room and washed it....those shirts smelled just like him too! I must have l…

Margie--I've got the game on here at home. My husband is ex-Army and my son is at Pensacola. We've got Bob on Skype so hubby and him are 'chatting' while watching the game. As for the box--I took pictures (like many other moms I've talked to) and t…

Vickyrun--when does your sailor arrive in Sacramento. Mine comes in from Pensacocla on Saturday 12/19 arriving around 6:30 pm (I think). I can't wait to see him in his dress blues and to HUG, HUG, HUG and HUG him.

(softly chuckles) Alaina, your son is very busy being a Sailor, even more so now that he has finally started "A" school. He's also growing up fast and asserting/exercising some new found independence. :) Rest assured that, even with a GF in the pict…

Where'd he go?

My son has been in Pensacola since 10/7. He has been waiting to 'class up' for aircrew. Once he got his cell phone and laptop, we have talked almost every day. So, I've become spoiled and have forgotten about the 7-8 weeks of boot camp with NO communication. How soon we forget!

Last week, his girlfriend flew out to spend Thanksgiving with him. He called to say she arrived on Tuesday, to say Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday and to say goodnight on Sunday. Since then we have heard NOTHING! I know i… Continue

I'm So Proud of My Son

A little under three years ago, I was talking with our Children's Pastor at church about my son, B. "I think he's going to be my failure to launch child," I said. He was failing high school. He was having discipline problems. In comparison to MANY people, all of our problems with him were rather trivial, but he was heading in the wrong direction. Through several extenuating circumstances, he started making the turn around he needed.
1. We experienced the death of a wonderful young man that had b… Continue

Airport transportation needed

I'm desperately seeking someone who might be going from Great Lakes to OHare on Sunday, 10/4/09. I have two travelers that I need to get to OHare for an 8:20 pm flight. My husband and I would get to spend an extra couple of hours with our graduating Sailor if someone could find room in their car for a couple extra people. We would be willing to share gas costs or whatever.

My PIR trip

My husband and I left Sacramento, CA on Monday am headed North and East to go to GL for PIR 10/2/09. I'm not usually one for self promotion, however, we have many family and friends that have been praying and supporting the entire family through these last 8 weeks, so I started a travel blog. Go ahead and checkout the two groups, a lot of the mom's sons are close to done or have finished. There are several mom's who's son's have not started yet. In the group Steven is the only one right now in RSS. There is so much to learn about SAR. It's not as scary as BC...lol Glad to hear your son call a lot, ours does to. Unfortunately for Steven he's having some pretty bad knee pain, he's worried he will be put on medical. We told him to stay off it all weekend, and lucky for him he has his truck that's where he keeps the advil, they can't have anything in there rooms. Hoping it is just overuse and not serious, but if it is still bothering him tomorrow he needs to say something.

I'll check out your blog.

Hi Alaina, Steven just finished his first week of RSS, it was pretty tough and I understand the next 2 weeks are even harder. He hurts in places he didn't know you could hurt. The only problem he's had so far is the snorkel, it was making him feel a little closterfobic in the water, and it messed with his head a little and caused him to doubt himself a bit. We had a good talk on Thurs., when we hung up he sounded a lot better, I felt so bad for him it really hurt my heart! He past the snorkel sprints yesterday and is back to his confident self! , I knew he would work through it.
So your son is enjoying p-cola, except for the heat and humidity, can't blame him...Lucky for him he'll be able to do most of the training in the cooler weather. Steven notice the guy's from the west coast had a tougher time with the heat/humidity, I think living in TX for 13 yrs helped prepare him.

What phase is he?
How was the drive out there and was PIR Amazing?

Nate PIR on thanksgiving last year, we stayed at Navy Lodge. I went to pick his buddy up at the Red carpet inn. I liked Navy Lodge, but the Red Carpet Inn is HORRIBLE!!! Stay clear of that one.
