OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using email, phone, chatrooms, and message boards, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Click on OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and the Page will open in a new window. Read the Page and follow the directions at the bottom to make change 3 (see the words in bold) so that this page is no longer visible to EVERYONE (Anyone) with access to the web. Don’t forget to click the “Save” button at the bottom.

There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Another change that I recommend that is mentioned in change 1 is to change the ZIP Code to one that is not easily associated with you or your recruit.

You can give your Sailor her cell phone to use on Liberty, but she will need to return it to you before she returns to the RTC and then you can give it and other things to her at the airport.

See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) to help you know how to plan your weekend. It includes info on what you can give to your Sailor.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info.

Take care and blessings to you and yours.

The RDC MAY be able to schedule a holiday call. Don't expect a call, but have your phone available and be pleasantly surprised if you receive a call. (See Phone Cards and Phone Calls for more information.)

Welcome to NAVYForMoms!

Members are looking forward to meeting you and answering your questions!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines, and recommendations 1 - 7 at this OPSEC/PERSEC page.  We ask that you not use your last name in your Username (even if it differs from your Sailor's) and not post photos with names visible on uniforms, for OPSEC reasons and the privacy of both you and our Sailors.  Go to “Settings” on the main page to set your Username, add a profile image and complete your Profile.

Jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and their Discussion Forums.  You can search groups for your PIR date, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" school, homeport and ship, and also your home state and/or city and interests from care package ideas to getting ready for deployment.

Be sure to introduce yourself when you join a group, and feel free to ask questions - we were all new to this once  :)  We look forward to reading more about you and your Sailor!
