Proud Navy Mom of Tim !!

Profile Information

About me:
Hi, I'm Alison. I am the proud mother of four beautiful children..T.J is 20, Tim is 19, Toby is 13 and Alissa is 11. I live in New Jersey with my new husband and my daughter, Alissa. All the boys live in Missouri with their dad...long story. I am from an all military family. My father is retired from the Navy, my only sister and her husband are retired from the Air Force, my oldest brother served in the Marines and his wife served in the Army, my youngest brother is still serving in the Army as a 2nd Lt and is currently serving in Iraq. I served 4 years in the Navy and so did Tim's dad...so to find out that Tim had joined the Navy really wasn't a big suprize to us..but I'm still proud as ever. He will be the third generation to do so!!! Even though I know what he'll be going thru in boot camp that doesn't stop me from being anxious about it. Alot has changed since my time there and so has this world. I had such a great time in boot camp & loved my Navy experience...best decision I ever made...wish I could have stayed longer and would go back if I had the chance in a heart beat!!!! Tim is very excited about his decision and wishes he could leave sooner than Dec. 9th. He scored very high on his ASVAB and has chosen to be a Master at Arms with a guarenteed "A" school after boot camp...I wish him all the best the Navy has to offer !!!
I am here to support or represent my:

Just wanted to let you know that my mother’s surgery went well. She stayed overnight and is now home. She is amazing. The night before her surgery she was in the front yard playing baseball with all of her grandchildren. The day after surgery she was home and only taking Tylenol for pain. We are still waiting for the lab results to see if it had spread into the lymph nodes. We should get those results on Tuesday, but as far as the operation went she is doing really well.
I am also doing really well. I should be, since I DID NOT have my surgery. I was in the Surgery holding area, with my IV started and my doctor came in and we started talking. I told him I could not wait for the surgery so that I could start moving my arm again and not have the expanders digging in under my arm all the time. He stop me and said that the surgery would not help that. That what I am feeling is remnants of my surgery(Scare tissue, lymph node dissection and my bursitis.) He said that the surgery would only help with my rib pain! After much discussion we all decided to abandon the surgery and to go ahead with the reconstruction as planned. I felt foolish, but he was really great about it!!! This doctor is great!!! He told me not to feel bad, just go upstairs and visit your mother(she was still in the hospital at the time) and see how she is doing. So at least I am now available help her. My sister is also down. Next week I do have to have my port replaced, as it is leaking. The same day I will also have my 4th Chemo…..then only two left!!!YEA!!!

Thank you so much for your prayers for my Mom and me. You have been a great support to me through this whole thing and I really appreciate it!!

Oh Alison, I'm a mess!!! Big surprise huh! NOT! Today is my last full day with Shane, he will be leaving for Japan tomorrow. I think the hardest part for me right now is not knowing when I will be able to see him again. I believe the Navy will take good care of him but I miss him already.

Good Morning Alison, I was just wondering how it worked when Tim graduated and was able to come home after. Did you have to purchase him a ticket or how did that all work. Greg said they give you a ticket to your duty station and then you have to change it. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier to get a new ticket for him to home and then change the one he gets from home to his new duty station? What do you think will be best? Hope you have a nice weekend.

Good evening Alison:

Yes; aside from an extremely busy and demanding schedule, all is well on this end. Fleet Week in New York was awesome, in-spite of my "official" duties and required attendence at commemorations and ceremonies.

Friday evening I had the honor and privilge of meeting Mrs. Gretchen Mack the mother of PFC Chance Phelps. PFC Chance Phelps was killed in Iraq in 2004 and HBO Films, with a screenplay based on the travel "escort" journal of Lieutenent Colonel Michael Stroble, USMC, produced a moving and inspiring account of the journey home to Dubois, Wyoming. If you have not seen this film, its is definitely a must see (should you need it, I have extra copies of the DVD I can loan you).

Saturday I had to work in Philadelphia. Sunday I attended commemoration ceremonies in Clark, NJ. Monday the 25th I was back in Manhattan for the commemoration ceremonies onboard the USS Intrepid. While the small picture of the 100' flag does not clearly identify all of the uniformed personnel holding the flag, I am in the upper right hand corner.

Thursday the 28th I had the honor of delivering the key note address at the awards ceremony for a local Marine JROTC unit. Following this, and a brief stint locally, I was off to Quantico, VA (USMC Base) to be followed by a trip to Norfolk, VA with a return to Jersey early the week of 8 June.

Let's connect when I return next week as I believe we are overdue for coffee & conversation and/or a dinner.

Thanks Alison! It was so thoughtful of you to send those cards too! I am hoping they have another get together soon and it is one I can get to. They were talking about one this summer. I hope it pans out!

Hi Alison, how are you doing? We made it back from PIR and our trip to S.A. it was an awesome weekend. We got to fly on the same plane to S.A. as Greg did so that was even more time spent with him. God is so good. Could you help me with the address Greg gave me. I'm not sure how to address the envelope with this PSC 3 he gave me. I just want to make sure I do it right so it gets to him. Thank you for your help, hope all is well with you and your sailor.
