About me:
I am a working mom in the restaurant industry and live outside Memphis, TN. I am super proud of my son, Adam, for joining the Navy and realizing all the opportunities it offered him.
I am here to support or represent my:
Adam
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
There are thousands of people out there who have experienced the same things...
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hey You....why don't you check into the "undes" site and let us know how Adam is doing. Actually, I'm looking for some support here....we've had several new members, but not a lot of old timers sharing their stories...sometimes I feel like a lone duck. I try to check the site daily, as I remember how devastated I was when I got that phone call from Cory. It's nice to know you're not alone in this....so I'm just asking, could you check in?

So, how is Adam doing? Cory will strike for gunners-mate in the next month or so. Right now he's off on a training excercise. I haven't heard from him since May 25th...the day they left. He said he'd be gone 6 to 8 weeks and he'd call when they got back. I'm planning a trip to Virginia in late July.

Hi Ami...Yea, wish I was going to - but that's ok - Sounds like Adam is as homesick as Terry - I think he just wants to talk with someone that he knows!!! I'm glad that his first time out to sea was for only two months! But I really can't wait to hear his stories about where he's been! Gotta run - take care and will talk with you later!

Ami....Hi, so how are you doing? Terry has been much better about e-mailing me - is Adam homesick yet? Terry is ready to get back to stateside and talk with his family and friends! I'm ready to hear his voice again! Just a few more weeks! Are you going on the Tiger Cruise? Wish I could be there, but that is just the way it works! well, I just wanted to say "Hi" - hope things are going good for you!

Ami: So Adam is out on ship....has he been in touch? 6 weeks sounds like the perfect amount of time for a little "getting used to it" Did he get to come home before he went out on ship?

Not much new here. Cory is home on leave....his last until after January 2010. So I think I'll fly into Virginia in June/July to visit for few days. He got a lot of leave his first 8 months in (he's been home 3 times!) and now has to wait until after the 1st of the year before he qualifies for any more. I don't know how much control they have over the dates they get leave.

Stay in touch....let me know how haw Adam is doing.

Ami: Good to hear from you! Cory LOVES Little Creek. He's working with a Seabee unit there. He called yesterday and said that March or April he will be heading to Cuba. You know...with Cory they changed the date of his assignment to Little Creek several times....so Adam really may not know!! Actually, it was about a week before Thanksgiving that Cory found out he was going to be home for that holiday and then needed to be in Virginia on Dec. 7th. There wasn't a lot of advanced notice!

I went to school in Memphis at Sienna College...I think it's been closed down for probably 20 years now. I always wanted to live in a small town....I read somewhere that in a small town even if you don't know what your doing...someone else does!!!

Let me know when you hear something about Adam. The base is really big and very close to town....as a matter of fact, when you drive out the front gates your in Little Creek. And, the airport is only 15 minutes from base. Keep in touch.

Ami: this is the second time I'm writing....I hit a wrong button a munite ago and deleted the 1st message! Have you heard from Adam? Cory is in Little Creek, Virginia...about 20 minutes from Norfolk! He really likes it....knew a couple of guys from Great Lakes when he arived on base...and made new friends easily. He seems pretty happy. Where is Somerville? I may have asked before...but I don't remember. I went to school in Memphis! Keep in touch and let me know how you're doing. Julie

Ami: Hi, just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you. I realize Adam left just day before yesterday....and I know how hard this time can be. Cory was home for Thanksgiving, but not Christmas!.....Hang in there....it will be okay. The good-byes don't get any easier, do they? Maybe we'll get the hang of this in another million years!! Bless you. Julie (PS Where is Adam off to?)

Ami,
Hi, I'm glad you have joined the "Undes" group, and I hope we can gain strength from each other. Whatever our sailors have (or have not) done to be in the place they find themselves, we, as their Moms, have had to bear it right along with them. It has not been easy, but guess what....real life isn't easy! I hope your Adam is doing better, and can work his way through to a place where he is more at ease. The waiting is the torture....it has been for my son too. Hope we can talk soon! Sheila

Ami: I know..I know..it's not bad enough that the kids already feel terrible...then they have no-brainer jobs to do. Cory did cleaning detail (mop and bucket) until he went back to Great Lakes. We've gotten over the shock and disappointment. I tell Cory it's about like failing a college class...the time will come when you can take it again...in the meantime you may find something you like better! It's gonna be okay, just hang tight and remember to tell your son how proud you are of him for serving his country...I think that's really important right now. Keep in touch. Julie
