oh, and if you fly into Midway, I would definitely take the 242 up to Great Lakes... it's a toll road but the tolls south were $0.80, $0.80 and $0.30. It's well maintained, wide lanes... easy.... And we too stayed at the Navy Lodge... clean, inexpen…

Our son said the same thing, the days are long but the weeks are short... We flew into Midway with Southwest, it was EASY! I LOVE flying Southwest, we had issues with our son's flight over xmas with United out of O'Hare so we ended up cancelling tha…

hi Anitia just wait til you see him At PIR- your going to be bursting with such pride!!! and seeing him in his uniform, wow how handsome they look!! My son is doing just fine right now, he just passed his last exam and is graduating Tomorrow!!!!!! i,m so happy for him!! Cant wait to hear where hes going next!! I guess they will tell him some time this week!! he will be coming home for 2 weeks before his next duty station, cant wait to see him!!

you asked me what happened to our chat well I guess maybe you were talking to another Carol because I never go on the chats, but Iam happy you came to my page because I was wondering how your son made out and how you were doing!! it can be rough the whole boot camp thing I remember being such a mess!!! and worrying had lots of questions!! but I found A PIR group with moms who were in the same division as my son and we helped each other out, I found the group in the boot camp forum what a blessing this site has been!!

Sorry I havent gotton back to you sooner but, the last time we talked your son had a week before he was to go in and I thought you might be busy getting ready and all !! oh that box!!! I think every mom goes crazy with the box!!
as far as the wet pants goes, I think maybe the grounds must have been wet, you say he wears his pants long, so they do sometimes go from one building to another and at one point he probably was told to roll those pants up!!
The first 48 hrs are ruff !! they just have so much to process, and get very little sleep!!
I just want to warn you the first letter home might sound like .. oh crap what did I get myself into I hate this but, the next one will be much better!!!! they just need to adjust and get use to the regular routine!! believe me, they make these young men work together as a team so they are never alone !! They pretty much yell at everyone, so I hope he doesnt take it personal, they just want to to make them tough!!
Did you get his address yet ? if not call his recruiter , he will have it. Just keep those letters coming! and encourage him no matter what he says, I always told my son its only a short while you can do it!!
need not to worry because if something bad happens they will call you!!! rest ashore on that!!
when my son was in boot camp I got no phone call home til he passed Battle stations and one mother told me
no news is good news!! she was right!! he was fine!! feel free to write me any time with questions you may have I sure dont mind I know this is not easy for us too!!! oh and my sons stuff came back and looked like he just thrown them in the box, maybe they just dont have the time to fold them!! did you get the call to say he arrived safley? if not dont worry my son said they only give them 30 seconds to make the call and because he had a calling card , when he got to the last number Click!!

my son went with his clothes on his back and a little cash in his pocket, you could buy him a calling card, so he doesn,t have to spend his money on that. but tell him to ask the recruiter what he needs to bring as far as paper work. I know my son had to bring some form of ID. every thing he brings with him will be sent back in a box, they pretty much supply everything. tell him to get plenty of sleep before he goes , the first 48 hours are ruff and get very little sleep!! tell him they all get yelled at, try not to take it personal, they just want to make them strong!!
the first letter home might not sound like they like it at all , but the other letters get better they just need to adjust to the daily routine. send him lots of mail, they say its like getting icecream on a hot day!! just keep on encouraging him to be tuff !! its only a short while and its all over. my son is in A school right now and is much happier , its nothing like bootcamp !! they get to have their cell phones back after boot camp

Anita, my son is also leaving in 1 week, which makes me very nervous. I have found a lot of information on this site which seems to make things a little easier. If you need to talk or anything just write, I am also in So Ca down by Palm Springs.

Son Leaving to Boot Camp in 1-week.

Hello, it's nice to have a forum to talk about my son leaving. My family is pretty much against this, but he wanted to go. I support him completely, but it's bittersweet. I will miss him trmendously, he's my last child at home, and he'll be gone far away. Thanks for the avenue to vent :)... Anita
