Dear Antoinette,
Thank you for the compliment on Kim. I still can't believe she's in the Navy, and she graduated last June!! HAHA!!

I write to quite a few moms that have children over in Iraq, thank God, it's been peacefull. I hear many times, the Sailors love it over there. I don't know why, it's a desert!! HAHA!

My husband has co-workeres who have their children in the Army, over there. The Soldiers even volunteer for more than one tour over there.
Remember, everything is in God's hands. Your son will be fine, just stay in prayer for him.

I know, it's easy to say, but as moms, we do worry, it's our nature!! HAHA!
I'm just as bad, I worry too. Just focus on God and his protection. That's how I get through! HAha!

Right now, my daughter Kim surprised us last night, coming home. We weren't expecting her. But that Good bye, never gets easier! UGH!

Let me get going.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara

My son is heading back to Iraq for his second deployment. He is a Navy Riverine. Make sure before your son leaves that he gets you the information for the family readiness group, the ombudsman information and completes an ombudsman form. That will allow the ombudsman to discuss some things with you if you call.
The emotional roller coaster is the first thing. Some times you are ok and others you just cry for no reason. It may take some time to hear from him so be patient. You soon learn that no news is good news. There are several ways for them to call home. Sometimes they can call from the base, but the calls are routed through a base in the US so make sure you answer the phone. The closest base to us was Fort Lee so that came up alot on my caller id. There were times it came up blank. You can always hang up on the telemarketers. We used Skype since he took a laptop and had a webcam. You can download that for free. It was good to be able to see him. He would email and tell me not to worry if I didn't hear from him for a week or longer because they were going out on a mission. He did use facebook so I would check that for activity.
Mostly I just prayed every day for his safety and for the safety of all our service members serving overseas. If you thought you had patience and strength before he left, you learn just how much you have while they're gone.
The time does go by faster than you think and you can't believe just how great the homecoming is. Please keep in touch and let me know how you're doing.

My son is a corpsman and left for Iraq last September and is due home this May. He is also my only child and has been in the Navy less than 2 years. He loves it in Iraq, but he won't tell me why until he comes home. There are so many emotions you go through and things to know that I can't tell them all to you here, but if you have any specific questions feel free to leave me a comment on my page. Kersten

Dear Antoinette,
How are you doing tonight?
Kim just got upgraded on her ramk to E2. She told me, next year, she's expected to be tested for Petty Officer.
I told her, after what she went through with the boyfriend, throughout Boot Camp, and graduated on time, she can do anything.!!
The boyfriend kept writting her threats in every letter. He didn't want her in the Navy. He had her crying throughout the full 8 weeks of Boot Camp.

Followed by, a threat of suicide, when she called him to tell him she graduated. He's fine, she went to visit him when she came home last November.
I don't know the promotions and titles, too much to remember! HAAH!
As long as our Sailors know, that's all that matters! HAHA!

Let me get going.
You take care and God bless,
Barbara

Dear Antoinette,
How are you doing? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
I'll accept you as friend! HAHA!

You wrote your son is working on his fourth strip, that's great!! I wish him all the best.
What title is he now?
I'm still learnng as I go.
My daughter Kim graduated last June, so I'm still new. She's in Virginia on the USS Normandy. She was trained to read the radar, but she's doing odd jobs while the ship is docked.

I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless,
Barbara
