Congratulations on your new recruit. I apologize for taking so long to respond. We have just returned from Great Lakes for the Graduation of our daughter. You can expect your first letter within the next week. Their first two weeks at BC are process…

My daughter reports to Great Lakes on Monday, March 30. I don't even have an address yet. Will that be coming? Will she not know the address until she gets there?

Through this Navy experience, I now believe:

Have you gotten her box of 'civies' as yet? If you have then double check to make sure there wasn't an envelope in the box. It has been a while (that is my son grad from Nuke Power School Sept '07 pix), but I believe that there was a letter in that box that gave me the address.

Welcome aboard! Congrats on one special daughter! Nuke is a hard program, but well worth the effort. Check out the boot camp mom's group also. There is a lot of information that is very helpful on that site.

Oh, it will ebe tissue time for sure, course I tear up lots of time just when I am talking about him to other people, depends on how much I am missing him that day!!! Joseph is our only child, so I have the "emptynest" syndrome going on....My husband thought I was nuts at first over this sight, he is a man of few words too!! but he has come to see how useful it is and most of all, how much I enjoy it, and it makes me happy, I was NEVER on the computor before, now you can't get me off it!!!
Doesn't Nuclear engineer sound awsome??? Go Jacklyn!!!!!! You are so proud I bet!!!!
When Joseph signed up, they offered him, medic, something with computors and aviation mechanic he had wanted the AM so that is what he will be!! He has been in P-cola since november waiting for school to start, I talked to him this morning and he said he is gonna start school in April, then maybe he will ccome home for a visit, I haven't seen him since he left in september!! I miss my boy!! he was 27 when he went in, gonna make a career out of it he says, He has really done good, I am so proud!! : ) Do what I do, when I get sad and missing him, I try to think about how much he loves the Navy and how proud I am of him, it works sometimes!!! not always but sometimes!!!!

Wow, she just left then!! Have you gotten the"Box" yet with the stuff she was wearing when she left? that is kinda wierd!! no note, nothing, we just recieves abox with his pants ,shirts, tennis shoes and that's all. I ended up having to send those tennis shoes right back to him once he went to P-Cola for A school!!Ha! Being a guy, I didn't get a many letters from my son as I would have liked, but he gave me his address a week or so after he got there, and I wrote him practacly every day, it made me feel better!! and I wanted to let him know how proed we were of him!!! Joseph said the USO gave him a bunch of phone cards after he PIR'd, so he was able to call us for awhile using those....South Caolina for NUke school? what do they do exactly? Joseph is in P-cola waiting for Aviation Mechanic school to start. He has been there since november, this morning he said he belives school will start in april, about time!!!

So April tell me about your sailor daughter! When did she go in? What is she going to school for? Is she in GL or has she started A school yet?

It's nice there. You can go online to the tourism site for South Carolina and get the big book with maps for the state sent to you to give you more information. It helped us in planning to go for graduation and things to see -- most for free. The drive is beautiful -- we took I-10 across -- unfortunately, because of the hurricanes, part of the scenic route along the coast is still out in LA, and MI -- but it's still beautiful. I think it's I-20/26 across from where you're at. I just like to see the water. Matt had tracked it for us and said that it was about 400 miles closer for us to take 10 across to Tallahassee and go up that way through GA. Of course, Continental Express has some great rates straight into Charleston right there by the base where the kids will be. (Maybe 15 min drive away, but still close -- right?) At least the humidity won't kill her in the summer. She'll look great while the rest of them are about to die. LOL!! Congrats and good luck!

Wecome Aboard Ms. April,
I too live in Fort Worth. My sailor graduated boot camp in April 07. He is a storekeeper and is stationed in Washington state. Please check out the group page, there are several that will interest you. Also the events page. There is a Texas Moms get-together in Waco, March 21st. Several of us are going to car-pool and drive down. Please consider going with us. We all have lunch and talk about our sailors. If you need anything, please just ask. You are now part of the family. Best Wishes and God bless sailor Jacklyn.
