I appreciate you sharing your experience with me. It is good to know that we might NOT receive a call on Christmas day from our son. This will certainly be a new way of doing things with/for family.....

Jenn is an E5 and is required to live off base. She was on NAS2 initially and worked on NAS1. Other than an occasional transportation thing, she didn't have any problems then. The problems really started when she had to move off base. She said no one takes any responsibility or accountability for getting things done and when you go back and ask for more help in getting stuff arranged, they are rude and don't want to help you. She says shes never seen people anywhere as rude as they (the Italians) are over there. I keep telling her that I'm sure there are plenty of really nice Italians there too -- she just hasn't met them yet.

Jenn is usually very outgoing, has no problems making friends, doesn't like 'drama', enjoys shopping and getting out. She's involved with a very nice young man and is not interested in meeting guys. She does want to do some sightseeing while she's there.

Let's stay in touch, just in case... Jenn's boyfriend is currently staying with her while he's on leave (he's a British Royal Marine). He'll be going back to England in about 2 weeks. This is the first time she's ever had ANY problems. She's been in for almost 5 years and has traveled numerous places around the world. This is the first time she's had any difficulty with anything but it seems to be one thing after another. She was violently ill about 2 weeks after she arrived there -- ended up on the hospital. Even the people she works with ask her every morning she comes in -- What went wrong today? They say they've never seen anything like it before either -- but at least she's always smiling when she comes in -- and they've never seen anyone like that before either!

Hi Barb, Thanks for the information. I think we're going to take all of the smaller things (makeup, flatiron, etc. as much as we can fit in one suitcase without paying to check another one) and then ship the bigger stuff to her. Hope your daughter is doing well.

Barb:

Sorry we've been strangers. Trust that all is well for Sarah. How's she doing in "A" School on "the other side" of GL? Hope she got a good bunking situation.

Have you and the family been able to get up to GL to visit on weekends yet?

Bre's doing well in Japan. She's applied for a posting in either Spain, Greece, or Diego Garcia. We're all hoping for Spain ourselves. Well, we finally got Mayghan's application in for her passport book and passport card. We're next. At least we all should have them by the time she deploys to her next posting.

She's got an $800 round trip from Narita to Newark (NJ) and back for when she is coming for about a 21 day visit. While she was talking with us her airfare had dropped down from the original $900. Not a bad situation.

Hopefully, she can get those fares for her sister Mayghan who will be going over to Japan this summer for at least 3 weeks along with one of her (Bre's) friends who's in college.

Our best to Sarah, first, and to your family and loved ones. Tell Sarah to keep a stiff upper lip and do her best and commit to be the best. The Navy is always looking for quality people to slot into leadership positions.

Love & God Bless,

Mary-Ellen & Tim
