Dear Mary, Sean joined up pn March 07..thats when he left for bootcamp hes PIR was May 20th which i couldnt go to due to me being in the hospital .. I was so bummed out. He is a OS Operation specialist, Petty Officer . He has been in Japan for 14 months . He is ON the USSMcCampbell. Its a destroyer ship. He is out to sea alot . He is not allowed to tell me where they go < until they are back .He also cannot call me when they are underway. If hes caught using hes phone , he will face disapline. I sent him a pic of Nick , and sadly No, he doesnt know him . I havent seen Sean since May 20th 2008 .. When hes grandfather died . he came home for 10 days and is still paying it off. The airfare i mean. I am a tad dissapointed with the Navy, for making him pay for hes airfare... Every time he got paid , they took it all to pay back what he spent.I think they kids should at least get free rides home, for making our lives safer. Thats my opinion. Anyway ,ill see him this coming Christmas, im already making plans for that. Right now he wants to go to school, and get hes college credits, but he isnt getting any answers about that. Hes last phone call sounded like he was very frustrated. Anyway , love to you and yours , Barbara

Barbara, when did sean do his PIR from bootcamp? Does he know Nick from boot camp? What rate is he? Nick is still in school as his program is a long one so he has not been to a ship as of yet - probably September.

As far as Sean making a change, he needs to talk with a detailer when it's time for his new orders. They will tell him what billets are open for his rate.

Hi Barbara,
Welcome to Japan Mom's, we are a proud group and a warm loving group that will give you the support you need. We've all been where you are and know how hard it is, we got thru it with a little help from our friends. My daughter Ashley is in Yokosuka, she's a fire fighter on the GW. She's been there since last October and she really likes it. She's even learned some japanese. there are two things that you can get her that will help her the most. First is an electronic translater (it translates into 8 languages, japanese and chinese included). LL Bean has one for about $29. the other things is a navy rackpack which I will let you read the description on the web page it's easier than explaining. My daughter has both and she says they are the two best things I've ever given her. The rackpacks are at www.navyrackpack.com
Hang in there we are there for you.
Hugs,
Charley

Hi Barbara, i hope you are feeling well and your son is doing fine. my son pir on 12/19 and came home with us for the holidays, that part was great. he left yesterday to go back to the gl for the pre-buds school, he was excited to get going on it. this time around is going to be tough we will not get to see him for a long time. if all goes as he hopes there he will complete the program and then go to california. we are out of days off from work and money right now so we won't be going anywhere to see him for quite awhile.plus my husband had a collapsed lung from his diving job and is not suppose to fly. it was so great to have him home it felt normal. yesterday at the airport was soooo sad and i miss him so much already. his time home went so fast.well nice to hear from you again. your n4m friend donna

Hi! Barbara, I haven't been on here much in the past couple of months between moving, holidays and being sick and work I just haven't had much time so I am just now finding you here. My son is on the same ship. He has been there a little over a year and he got sick right after he got there last year. He had a abcess in his throat which he had only had one other time in his life which was a couple of months before that when he was at A school. It was much worse the first time he didn't know what it was just thought he had a sore throat. He said they took very good care of him and made him take a 4 day leave but also got left behind for 2 weeks because they couldn't chance an emergency if he got worse underway. They were going to take out his tonsils but still have not done that but he hasn't had anymore trouble. I think he got stressed out with the big move and all. He loves it there but does miss us all here at home. I'm sure that Sean is getting along better there now. It is a very big adjustment for them I know it would be for me I'd be scared to death. I have met one other lady who has a sailor on the ship. It is nice to know someone esle.
