From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Before she actually enlisted in the Navy, I told her of my fears, and that not everyone is for the Military life. In my next sentence, I told her, if she does like the Navy, it is a great career.

Dear Barbara,

How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was pretty good. We spent it with my husbands family in Madison Wisconsin. The whole family made with the exception of my sailor. We missed him a lot. This was our first holiday without him. He called twice though, so he wasn't totally absent. He shipped to Pensacola on Tuesday so he is settling in to his new base.

So I take from your previous note that you are planning to go ahead with the surgery. When are you going to do it? I assume you are waiting until after your grandson is born. I think that will be great. I am happy you are getting this done. I pray it will work well for you.

My yougest is gearing up for her state dance competition. I will be traveling to Des Moines in a week to spend the weekend in a hotel for this. The days leading up to this are crazy. It takes up a lot of our time. She has practice every day leading up to this for 3-7 hours. Today was a 7 hour day as is tomorrow and Sunday. When school starts on Monday she will only practice 3 hours. Her body is so beat up and bruised right now I don't know how she will make it through the rest of the week. It is her own version of boot camp.

I am trying to get the house ready for Christmas, but I just can't get motivated. It takes so long. No one really helps me and it is just kind of boring doing it by myself. I wish I could get more into the spirit of this! Well I hope you are having a nice holiday weekend.

Good morning Barbara,

My Thanksgiving was good! It was just me and Larry. My youngest daughter was with her Dad this year and I had to work the night before, so we just had a quiet dinner just the two of us! It was real different not having Nikki with me this year but as our kids grow up, that is what happens and I realize that my little girl is grown up! Yes, we had a big dinner and all the left overs will come in handy throughout the week. I go back to work tonight so I will be bringing food to work to share with my co-workers. Turkey enchiladas is on the menu for today!!! Yummy!!!

How old is your other daughter? How old is Kim? That’s nice being able to spend the day with family and loved ones. I’m glad you had a good Thanksgiving!!! AND that your husband helps you out. That’s how my guy is. He does so much for me. It’s so nice.

I need to go to the post office to see if she has written again. I’ve only got one letter from her and the Information letter about graduation. I haven’t checked in a couple of days, but I understand that she has lots of people that she has to write too, especially her boyfriend! He’s going to be coming along with us. They have been going out less than a year. My Mom is coming too. She’s really excited to come see Nikki.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to write me. I appreciate your time and knowledge about what’s going on with boot camp.

I am trying to get Oprah tickets for that time while we are there but they are not available yet. I went to her show a long time ago when she was filming in LA and Tom Cruise was there. It was fun but I hated the movie we had to watch before she interviewed him. He’s short!!! Anyway, I’m going to continue to try to get tickets. I had never heard of the man your talking about. That must be only on that side of the country. At least it’s now closer to you!

Well, I’m going to go out and tackle the crowds with some shopping.
Take care and I will talk to you again soon…

HI Barbara,
Nice to hear from you. Yes we survived boot camp. He graduated in May of this year. Mothers day weekend, it was the best mothers day present ever. His name is Scott and he is going to school still in Monterey california. He is a translator. He is home now for thanksgiving for 4 days. Yes I would love to be added as your friend. I also like how you personalized your page. How do I do that?
Well I hope you and your family had a wonderful thanksgiving and tell your daughter thank you for joining. You have a nice family I love your pictures.
Take care and talk again soon.

Happy Thanksgiving to your family, from someone who thinks you are a very special person. Thank you for all your advise. My boy is fine and graduation was wonderful. We may even see him hear Christmas. May you find peace, at the end of the busy day ahead.
