Hi AdamsMom. I hope things are looking a bit brighter. I know this can be scary. Recently we needed a lawyer to review an old support order. In doing so, I sought the help of an attorney with Navy experience. The local lawyer referral in your area s…

Taking a deep breath.... almost....

As I look back at my N4M, Facebook, USNA, dropshots, plebesummer, and all the other places I have been over the last 3 months, it is hard to believe HOW much has gone on. I looked at my last post here, and it has been 4 months Yikes, I bet all the other N4M's think I have faded away. On the contrary. I have been so consumed with the prep for Annapolis since the month before Scott's graduation, and the weeks after PPW, and finalizing Scott's much needed items. We have been to the Congressional Se… Continue

68 days is not enough!

I spent the better part of this week preparing for JUST the high school presentation of Scott's acceptance to Annapolis today. His dress pants, too short from internships in years past, LONG hours at the Geek Squad before, during and after the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays.... had to be replaced 2 days before the event. I had to gently wake the sleeping exhausted bear from his state of hibernation, for which he graciously thanked me later. Last night he asked about his 6 yr old brother com… Continue

Can I send him early?

UGH...Sometimes I forget, even in the proudest moments, that this young man is still a TEENAGER! Heaven help me, and him. I know he goes July 1st to Annapolis, but there are those rare moments where I would like to send him early. I keep trying to remind him that even though he made it to Annapolis, he does not have it ALL figured out. I got it, I got it just doesn't cut it. I think he might have Senior-Annapol-itis....... If so it MUST be God's way of perparing me to let him go. OY!

One more Easter B4 Annapolis

Oh my, God has a bittersweet sense of humor. I had decided I was not going to cry in church today. Yup.... Made that decision before I went. Yup... sure did. Crazy schedule getting there, and Scott went ahead to save 4 seats so we could all sit together. Turns out... no one, goes to the early service. Be that as it may. 2 rows ahead of us was a kid in his NJROTC jacket from a neighboring school. Was fine until they got to the song "How Great is Our God" . Lost it then... I realized how great God… Continue

Watching him get ready

I just added a countdown clock. Scott has a white board in his room, and counts down the days til I day...Feels more like going off the the goolag! It's hard to watch him process this thru the eyes of a 17 yr old. 9 years is a long time to commit to at that age. It is more than 1/2 his life. I keep telling him to break it down.... 6 weeks of plebe summer, than it is COLLEGE with a twist.... After 4 years, you are guaranteed a job for 5. In this economy.. it is a good thing. I know for him, he ha… Continue

Hi Barbara,

It's so nice to hear from you again! Wow, your son has a lot on his plate! How's Scott doing with all these challenges? What happened to his knee? Good that you gave him a visit, when my daughter was there she LIVED for visit there and her sponsor families (she had 3)!! A friend of mine is a retired General and an uncle both are graduates of the Academy. Then the civilian family that sponsored her too. Holler back in between FB... lol Sherry

thank you for your kindness. My daughter is very special, but she expects me to know everything intuitively and while I am not clueless, I am also not all that knowledgeable about the adventure she is about to start and I am naturally asking too many questions. It helps to know that I am not alone. Have a great Thanksgiving. I am lucky you were out there to hear my confusion!

Thank you so much for your reposonse-- I really appreciated hearing the step by step experience-it was actually comforting. I guess you know how isolated I feel right now since the process is so new to me. I am both honored and worried for her. I want her to be happy and I will support her no matter what she wants. I have three sons and she is my youngest. Who would have thought?

Anyway, I received the call from the Senator's Office yesterday, so that part is official...and the actual LOA was received a couple of weeks ago. We were told by the Blue and Gold Officer last night all we have to wait for is the official offer of appointment.
I see now that my daughter's experience is the normal progression of events.
I am a little speechless. But I am thrilled to hear that you will be there for I Day. Makes it feel a lot less daunting!

Barb, I wanted you to know that you and Scott were in my thoughts this last week. I'm sure your Blackberry had the 'network' in Annapolis working overtime. Looking forward to hearing all about Scott's future achievements, and your Mom stories! Congratulations, Mom and a Blue Skies, Salute and big Navy Mom Hug to you, Scott!

Hi Barbara,

Just a thought. When my daughter entered Annapolis she had a birthday approaching right after PPW so we took her to the local IHOP and suprised her with a "birthday" pancake complete with the number candles and everyone singing happy birthday to her!! She loved it, we took photos and her birthday was celebrated with her family.

Of course, I had a "birthday" package sent to her as well to enjoy with her shipmates on the actual day. Just a thought for you to consider for Scott. How's he doing? How are you?

Hi Barbara,
You are so right about the decoder ring - it sure would be helpful! Thanks for the link - I'll keep the address on file. I asked my son about PIR and he said google it. I did, and it was no help. At least you oldest was a freshman and didn't have to pay back the AF. That was always a fear of the ROTC people - that some physical injury would disqualify them. We were lucky.
