Your directions were excellent -- went right there with no problem -- thank you so much. We also stayed at the Springhill Suites -- wonderful place with a lot of room for sitting and facebooking.

I don't know anything about insurance, but if nobody is driving his car, then it doesn't make sense to keep paying for it. As far as health ins, which can be pain to reinstate if something goes wrong at boot camp (plus pre-existing problems, plus ...

There is info about hotels and stuff in this document, and elsewhere in N4M but you'll have to be patient to find out the grad date. And keep in mind, that even though his division will be scheduled to graduate on a certain date, things can happen...

I didn't go to the airport when my son left. I made hubbie take him because I knew I'd end up making a scene and I didn't want him to be any more anxious than he already was. He doesn't need me there being all weepy and weird and spinning him up. ...

Hi Sandy ... I can share the little bit of knowledge I've gleaned. My son left for Okinawa at the beginning of Sept so I'm a bit of a newbie myself. He's a corpsman and just finished A-School in August so this is his first duty station. As far as...

I thought about that. thanks. I was thinking I could write a letter and add a picture on the letter page. My concern is I won't get many letters back from him, he's not a writer. Do you know when they finish boot camp, do they have email access ? Face book is where I'll hear from him, I hope!

Thanks for sharing your stories. I learned a lot which is helpful since my son has been in boot camp for a total of one week! Based on your son's comments, I think I need to write more so he can get those extra letters.

Hi Becky,

It's time for all of us to get together again. We are going to meet Saturday, August 29. I placed a discussion out there a while back, but with summer and busy schedules there weren’t too many responses. With that in mind, I am going to invite all who are interested to my home and we’ll BBQ and pack boxes and just catch up on our Sailors. I don’t know that I have all of the Colorado Moms on my email, so please feel free to pass this along to any on your friends list. As always the more the merrier. My address is 12165 W. 85th Avenue Arvada, CO 80005 303-463-8912 (home) 303-982-0590 (work). Please go to the event page and RSVP if you are coming.

Molly’s Adopt-A-Sailors have adopted the USS CROMMELIN. The USS Crommelin is a frigate and the home to 252 of our sailors. They are based out of Hawaii and are currently on deployment. There are 250 males and 2 females aboard.
And, not only are they happy about us adopting them, they are ecstatic!
They will be half-way through deployment about mid-September, so we are going to help them celebrate with a HAWAIIAN LUAU. Let’s show our Colorado Love.

Check out Molly’s Adopt-A-Sailor site for more details. The discussion link is August 09.

Hope to see lots of your smiling faces 

We were just there in 2002. My husband was a civilian employee for the Marine Corps Community Services there. My sons were in 6th. 7th and 9th grades. We enjoyed a lot of family time together. There is a lot to see and do on Okinawa. The MWR puts together tours and activities. There is a nice movie theater on one of the Marine bases and everyone stands at attention for the National Anthem before the movie. I believe our experience there was instrumental in my kids decision to join the military....I just told them they could NOT join the Marines!

Hi Becky...I have a question that some other person on this site suggested I ask you about. I understand that only 4 people per recruit are allowed to attend the graduation. My son's recruiter told us that anyone with a miitary ID can get into the graduation even though their names are not on the list. That seems odd to me and I am not sure if it is correct information. Do you know the answer or do you know whom I can ask? (my son wants to give the list slots to friends and assumes we can get in with our military ID's). thanks a bunch! shirlee
