Anyone know of any "Adopt a Sailor" programs in GL? We can't bring the hubby home for Thanksgiving this year, and I hate to think that he'll be spending the day on base.

Thanks Barb. I'm usually okay with it all, and don't whine much...we're actually very thankful that he was able to get in the Navy and get orders for San Diego. It was our little guy's 4th birthday this week, and he was told not to make holiday pl...

It's really a crapshoot with the hold issue. My hubby left for boot camp 11/19/08, has been on weeks and months of hold between classes, and it's now been over 5 weeks since he graduated from his A School, but his orders still have not posted. The...

Well, James completed his GM training, he ended up Honor Grad and Top Gun for his class! But...he's still hanging out in GL, no clue of when he'll be shipping out. I'm just hoping it's before the end of the year, but I know there are no guarentees.

James is assigned to the USS Princeton. We still don't know when he'll be home, looks like late November...it will be 1 year of him gone on November 19th. Still no definite date for C School yet, we're just hoping he'll be able to be there for the...

We finally got orders, the week before he graduates A School! We're staying in San Diego!!! Now if we could just get our guy back home...the boys are really missing their Daddy. :)

If I understand it correctly, when the orders are available for a class, they get to choose in order of how well they are currently doing in the class. So, if your sailor is really set on certain orders, he needs to make sure he's near the top of ...

Well, I just received my California nurses license a few weeks ago. Now the problem is that we can't someone to buy our house here in Chicago! One day, I'll make it there. We just need to wait for the right time!
Thanks for the offer.

So how do the unions work and is it good for the nurses or not so good? when you're hired, does the hospital tell you that they are union or does the union call you after you're hired? Just curious.

Hi my name is Mary Beth (MB). I saw that your husband and my son started A school at the same time. I told Sean that there were some people on this site that had someone just starting. He said that James is one of his roommates. I'm glad he knows someone in his class. So far it sounds like it is going ok. I know he didn't like the mandatory study time either. It sounds like they don't have to do that any more. Your boys are cute. I have 4 boys (of course they are all over 6 ft). Sean has an older brother who just turned 22 this month. He just graduated from college. He's living at home trying to find a job. Then he has 2 younger brothers, one that will be a senior in high school next year and one that will be a sophmore in high school. Sean is 19. He left last summer in Aug for boot camp. He started out in pre-buds (Seals) after bootcamp, but missed a push up on a test so then had to choose a different job. He has been on hold a long time, so am glad that he is in A school. Well just wanted to say hello. Its nice to touch base with someone he knows there.

Beth, thank you so much for the offer of your car. It is extremely generous of you!! We won't be coming until August 19. We will consider the offer, but the logistics might be difficult, we don't get into San Diego until 11 PM. Do you know anything about the Hotel Del Coronado. We don't want to stay there. I heard you can tour it. I checked on Baloa Park, you had mentioned that before, and I think we will make a stop there a day or two. Thanks so much for all you information

Beth, have your husband find my son. He's a GM2 instructor on the simulation range, not the live range. He's 26 and has two little girls (divorced), but he's older than 18 and been on two deployments, so maybe your DH would enjoy talking to him. They are allowed to meet in public, I believe, like the NEX or the mall. He met Susie's Gabe at the mall a couple weeks ago. I'll send his cell number if you're interested.

Hi Beth. Just wanted to stop by your page and say, "Cute kids!" I have two boys as well, but they are 18 (my sailor, Gabe) and 16. I also have two girls, 15 and 12. They keep me busy! Welcome to Navy for Moms (and wives!).

Hi Beth! I hope you are using calenders with the boys. It always helped my kids when daddy went away. My son is also staying at GL for GM school. He said after talking to the GMs that did their firearms training that he was more stoked then ever to get done with school and on to his job! Look forward to seeing on Friday at Flanagans!
