Profile Information

About me:
Former army reservist and wife of retired army member. But our daughter decides to join the Navy. We are very proud of her but miss her constantly. Currently we live in beautiful and sunny Colorado Springs - where the Army last deposited us.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Thinking about joining
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Support - support - support. Listen with both ears and hearts wide open. Encourage like you've never done in your life. Stand by your child as if it were the end of the world - and most of all - BE PROUD!!! Always and forever.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Good morning; Is everything ok over there? I heard they were suddenly deployed. Is that true? Do you know anything?

I saw your post in 'Sasebo'...my daughter is on the USS Essex. Do you think you will be posting pics from your trip when you return of all the ships? Katie is a DC and has been there since April. I don't know that we will have such a wonderful opportunity as you to go over to visit. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful time with your daughter.

Hi Bethany; Hope all is well with you. Ashley sent me pics too but I don't know if the girls in the pics are Nina. I sent her an email to ask. I will share them with you if they are. I know that you are counting down the days until you get to see her in person. Take care and keep in touch.

Hi Bethany;
It so good to hear from you. I am getting excited for your trip too. Hopefully soon I will be doing the same thing. I am sorry to hear Nina has bad days and I hope she will be feeling better soon. I thought Ashley was the only one having these "bad days". She e-mails me one day just complaining about how much she dislikes things and of couse I get upset and feel helpless. and then she emails me the next day with positive stuff. It just keeps me on an emotional roller coaster. I know in all of it that I really am blessed to hear from her at all when I read about how some mothers don't hear from their sailors for weeks. Ashley has told me that their ship has been deployed for the last 10 months out of 12. I know I really don't have a say so in it but Do you really think it would be worth the money the girls would spend in rent to enjoy 2 months out of a year in an apartment? I know being on the ship has got to make them crazy but I don't know what the solution is. How long has Nina been with the ship? I have been looking for pics of the ship on the websites too. I told Ashley to tell her photographer that they need to get on the ball because all of the other ships have lots of pics on the sites and there are very few of them. We will see what happens. Keep in touch and I will do the same.
Take care-

Hey there!
I was just reading where you had posted that your daughter had gotten a japanese cell phone and it was so cheap. Can you tell me what type/company it is? My son is leaving on Saturday and I want him to get the best plan when he gets there.

Its so awesome that you get to talk to your daughter so much! I hope I am as lucky.

Thanks for the info. Have a good day!

Hi Bethany; I know how your feel. I am just too excited about the things Ashley will get to experience and see. I check three sites frequently for pics. Can you share the site you found your pics on? You may e-mail me the site if it makes you unconfortable posting it. DHiett@balzer.cc Thanks a bunch!!
Take care. I will talk to you soon.

Hi Bethany;
Just checkin in on you to see if you have heard from Nina. Ashley says that she likes Nina. They seem to be getting along good and getting closer talking about girl stuff. Ashley seems to be adjusting well now. She says that they are busy but really doesn't mind because there is always something going on. She enjoyed her time in port and was looking forward to the olymics and steel beach party. She e-mails just about every day. There is a new member on USS Harper's ferry group. She wants to know what to expect regarding Japan, the ship and visiting. Im not much help maybe you can connect with her.
Take care and keep in touch.

Hi Bethany; Thank you so much for the kind words. How exciting for Nina to be getting married. Is he a member of the armed forces or a hometown sweetheart? Long distance relationships must take a lot of understanding and patience.
I bet you are just too excited to be going to Japan. I must get there too!!! I have three other children that will not let me go without them so I think it is gonna take a looong time to save up.
Ashley has spent the last 5 summers on mission trips. I hope she will continue to serve while in the military. From what I see, they have loads of opportunites to get involved from one end of the scectrum to the other.
I gotta go make some dinner. It was good to hear from you.
Keep in touch

Hi Bethany; Yay!! I got a call this morning too!! It was soo good to hear her voice. Her voice seemed a little more upbeat than her emails have led me to believe. She did say that they were busy, not gettin much sleep. She still feels like she has to learn everything all over and really hates not knowing exactly what she is doing but I tried to tell her to be patient it will come. She had just finished eating and was getting ready to play bingo. Which she loves to do but hates not winning (lol) She hasn't said a thing about any drama which is great! She hasn't told me where they are going but seems real excited about getting to go there. She said she could tell me when they get there in a few days. Thanks for filling me in. I will let you know if I hear more.
Dana
