Beth, Glad Eric will be able to come home. Our house might be really bad next year because both Sean and our Army Reservist will be gone!

Thank you!!! I am very proud of him too!! We will be missing Sean at Christmas this year. Is Eric going to be able to come home? We were hoping he could make it since they will be on deployment next Christmas but he will be coming home for their pre-deployment leave. The air line prices just got too expensive!!

Good morning, Beth! I'm sure you saw "Michigan Barbara's" picture in my photoshow. My daughter must have satrted with your son, too. She entered OCS on February 22nd but was held back 2 weeks (I know there's a different term for that but I can't think of it). As Martha says, Newport is a magical place. Congratulations to your son and his family!

Beth, Thanks I did the upgrade, my computer just automatically upgraded to 8, and still it doesn't work. I have only three or four sites I can't get on at home and unfortunately N4M is one! So I guess until I can get someone to figure it out, I'm only going to be able to get on at the Library. We do have an older computer 5+ years and a cheaper model when we bought it, it may be time to upgrade? Thanks for the help.

Katie's ticket was $20 and the most expensive was $45. Just heard from Katie about the ball - she had gone with a few sailors she met during cranking duty. She said...."The ball was ok, it may have been better if I went with someone who wanted to dance. I only took a few pictures sorry, but I'll put them up." Katie would have enjoyed it if her 'date' would have liked to dance - I know that was half the reason for going...just like in high school. Oh well, there's always next year!!

I saw the announcement of the ball on the Ombudsman (sp?) message that I get from the Essex. I didn't see a cost for the tickets and Katie didn't say what it was. Katie is going with friends she made during cranking duty - she was in the laundry. I believe it is all just dutch treat. It must be a nice event at that cost - at least you would hope so. It said for the Sasebo event that it was dress blues and civilians it was black tie.

I'm still learning too. I can put things up but have trouble changing and deleting. I love the long distance communication computers allow but don't always like the y way they complicate our lives.

The Navy Ball is to celebrate the birth of the Navy. I'm not sure if it is celebrate in every port on the 9th, I just know it is in Sasebo and Katie is going. She hadn't taken her dress skirt and shiny pumps when she left, but asked me to send the 'priority' right away so they would be there in time, otherwise she has to wear her dress blues w/pants. DC stands for Damage Control.

I didn't understand the 'slap' either. I always say how Katie is a DC stationed on the USS Essex out of Sasebo. Katie tells us general movements or when they are out to sea, but then I go the the Commander 7th fleet site and get all the other information about the Essex and all the other ships/subs in the fleet. I dn't get it. Anyway, Katie has been in Japan since the end of April. Right now she is in Yokosuka (sp?) for some advanced fireman training. Mid october she will be out on fall patrol. They are in barge barracks right now as the ship is SRA - getting a new flight deck, amongst other things. Katie misses home, but she is enjoying her time in the navy. On the 9th she will be going to the Navy Ball.
