Our son has graduated Camp Pendleton and is headed home for a short visit before he reports to his new base in New Orleans!!!! We couldn't be more proud. He has grown into the Man we knew he could be - every parents dream come true. God has truly blessed us all.

Hi Bette, I think somebody said FMTB means "field marine training battallion" but the M stands for Medical, not marine. It's a fairly new term, used to be called Field Medical Service School. It's training at Camp LeJeune, I believe, for corpsmen who will then go out with marines. At one time my older navy daughter considered it.

Hi sorry it's taken so long to reply. Yes all corpsmen go to A school at GL. It's an honor to be nominated for Ceremonial Guard (daughter Rachel has a friend from h.s. who is doing that), but from what I understand, the training is rather rigid and not right for everyone. Daughter Megan is what's called "Full Time Support - FTS" so she gets different orders/choices of billets than regular Navy. She started at Buffalo, NY then Jacksonville. She's going to AVT school in Pensacola in Jan, then on to Washington state. (We have another daughter & family in Charleston, and our son goes to Clemson.) Rachel got Bethesda hospital as her first duty, and is now on "I.A." in Kuwait with a couple months to go, then she will be back at Bethesda. Really it is up to the detailers where they get sent, but hopefully Mark will get one of his top choices. Hope you have a wonderful time together. Take care.

Hi Bette, I would just recommend arriving early, as we had a long line to wait in (of course that was in Sept, one of the busiest months) a couple of years ago. Seems to me they were very accommodating of people who needed assistance. Best wishes to you all, this will really be something to be thankful for!
