Got to Meet His Recruiter anyway!

His cell phone is broken, ( I think he washed it in his pants pocket, but I am not saying anything! ) so he was not receiving the phone calls his recruiter was trying to make to him. So, lo and behold, who shows up at my door yesterday afternoon? That's right, his recruiter! Very nice man, and though my dogs tried to attack him, after I locked them in the bathroom I invited him in and we got to chat a little! I feel a lot better now, and the moms on here are great!

My son just joined the Navy

We first visited Navy and Air Force recruiters when he was only 16 years old. He always wanted to join the military. I secretly wanted him to join the Air Force because my dad was in the Air Force. But he has always been reluctant to do anything I ever wanted him to do! He really loved the Navy, and I talked to the recruiter for HOURS on the phone! I was so scared, had all these questions written down, and at the time, we were in the middle of a war so I really did not want him to join any milit… Continue

CBMom,
Please feel free to "talk" to me any time you need to.As I said my heart broke when we took our son to the hotel the night before he left. I was hanging on to him in the middle of downtown Cleveland sobbing. Poor kid..lol and his dad who likes to make everyone think he is some big tough guy cried all the way home himself.

Everything you asked about is great! We will catch up. I got a new computer and haven't loaded it yet (busy church weekend) but will do so this week. Hopefully I won't keep on getting frozen out of the N4M site.

A bunch of us moms are on facebook, too. Let me know if you do that.

CB Mom was catching up in the chat room and reading about your son,Before I could reply seems you were gone,I fully understand the pain that you and Wills mom are going through. My son left for bootcamp in June and I cried and cried thought would never stop. But they do and as hard as it seems you will get through this. I did not think I would ever feel this way but trust me it will get easier. I know that we raise you children to leave home and be successful and dont get me wrong I like the women in the chat room but it seemed to me that they were not being very understanding. Please feel free to comment on my page if you need someone who understand a little better.

hi CB, I remember feeling like I was the ONLY one that did not hear from my son! It took 9 days just to get his address when everyone else had them in just a few days. So stressful waiting for that first communication from them! The whole division can earn a phone call - (this usually happens later) OR your son can earn a call on his own. Our son earned a number of calls (somehow) I think he had a decent RDC as he ended up calling frequently but my nephew was there at the same time and my sister only got two calls from him ------- both in the last week so there is no rhyme or reason - you just need to hang in there. It will get easier!

We booked at the Holiday Inn Express and got my AAA discount. We are going to live on sandwiches - not too worried about needing to cook. I hear there is a Walmart very close to this area too so that will save us all money - we can get our essentials there. I'm from upstate NY so I’m used to the snow - as a matter of fact we are having quite a storm here today. I had a conversation with Brett's recruiter the other day, he said they do most if not all of their training inside now - so that made me feel better that he wasn't out in the storms.

ohhh = when will they find out about ET or FC? It varies, for our son it was written into his agreement that he would find out third week of boot camp. For others it's closer to the end of boot camp. Both are good rates.

You should received your first letter between the 2nd and 3rd week of boot camp. They are only allowed to write on Sundays and generally not the first Sunday of boot camp. Depending on where you live - you will receive your letters on Wednesday or Thursday. i'm in Atlanta so Thursday was our day. You will at some point get a phone call or six. It just depends the division, there RDC and your sailor or it depends on NOTHING at all! Recruits do earn phone calls but some division leaders are better about giving phone time than others!

LOL! Yes, your hubby needs to get in the loop or he won't know what you and your son are talking about ! I had an advantage, I was married to an FC. Hubby was in the Navy for 10 years so I learned young and not much changes with the military! Now our son is an FC. Do yourself favor and go into the discussion threads for AECF and there is a wealth of information there including their job description and potential C school locations - otherwise just ask. Someone has the answer!
