Aurea...I didn't realize that there was another mom from the Ft Hood area on here! It is horrible what happened...but the military and civilian community are truly one here and will work together to begin the healing process.
Happy Veterans Day to all our Sailors & other military service members and veterans...Thank them for the freedom we enjoy! And please remember those lost in last Thursday's shooting here at Fort Hood!

- About me:
- I am a native Texan and have been married for the past 26 years. We have 2 wonderful children - my daughter Lacey is 22, and my son Cody is 25. We live in Central Texas near Fort Hood, the largest Army post in the US. As a mortgage loan officer specializing in VA home loans, I have the honor of helping alot of active duty & retired veterans purchase their home with the VA Loan Eligibility.
In June 2005, after realizing that college wasn't for him - and neither was the Army - Cody decided to become a sailor and enlist in the Navy! We were very proud but nervous about his choice since we knew nothing about the Navy. Right away we knew he made the right decision when he was assigned RPOC at boot camp, and then selected as the Honor Recruit for his division as well. He was stationed on the USS John C. Stennis in Bremerton, WA... which was a big change for a Texas boy! Took him a while to quit being homesick and get used to the cold & rain - but he has grown to love the beautiful country up there! He is in Crash & Salvage and he's been through 2 deployments on the Stennis. In 2007 my husband had the wonderful opportunity to join him on the Tiger Cruise from Hawaii to Bremerton. He LOVED it and I was jealous. :) Then, this summer Lacey and I flew to Hawaii while the Stennis was in port there and stayed for a week to visit with Cody & his friends... and that was AMAZING!
Cody signed up for 5 years - so he only has one more year to decide if he will re-enlist. Regardless of his decision - the Navy has been a great experience for him and has allowed him to make some lifelong friends and experience a whole new world out there! We are so very proud of him for serving his country - as well as all of the young men & women that choose to serve in our United States Armed Forces!

CCR said… - Hi, I'm from Deep East TX. My son is on the USS BR. He's an FC-CIWS and was in A school in GL, and two C schools in San Diego. I wanted to say congrats when I read Cody was an Honor Grad. We've hauled to killeen/Ft. Hood area before, so I can say I've been there - but I lived in Ft. Worth for 35 years! I guess thats home. I saw your comment on the TX group and wanted to say hello. Will Cody come home from Washington for the holidays this year and how many holidays were you able to spend with him?

Well, those racks are not too good-but it sure makes me appreciate our sailors even more----what they endure for months at sea and that's just a monor part of it. What part of TX are you in? I have a friend near Austin..says there;s a lot raining going on this weekend. You take care---

- Hi Carol------Were you on the Tiger Cruise? How long has Cody been in Navy? Next Friday (Sept 11) will be the one year anniversary that Michael reported to the Stennis...sure goes fast. I wonder if they know eachother. Michael is a blue shirt----has been working at fly3--but will be doing tractors on this next short cruise.

- i've heard that Harker Heights is suppose to be better then Killeen or even the Cove - unless you find certain areas. We will probably be renting because there is no promise that we won't get up routed or something of that nature. I've heard that Killeen is really "hood" and kinda beat down? Very military town and worn out.
If he ends up deploying I don't wanna move somewhere that would leave me feel nervous that he's not home. Any recommendations that is in between Fort Hood and Belton? (I going to be going to UMHB :D )
