When I heard “Navy,” I:
Encouraged him/her
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Support him in his decisions no matter what. He has to learn from his own mistakes. He will be a better man for it.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:

Hi Carolyn~ my son has been in for 6 and is getting ready for shore duty after 4 years on his first sub. Did your son do shore duty before his assignment on this new sub? My guy is considering staying in and I have no idea how his assignments will go.

It doesn't seem fair that Jeremy won't be promoted even if he passes the test for it. Is that because he chose to be a recruiter rather than stay on a ship?

Welcome Carolyn!
My son is still in nuke power school and has a long way to go to get to the level of Jeremy. With the apparent shortage of nukes, I'm a bit surprised that they didn't keep him on a ship. I'm so glad for you that he will be close to you. It will be nice hearing from someone who's son has put in 7 years as a nuke. What rate is he? Jim is an MM.

So, enjoy your time here and I'm looking forward (along with the community) to reading more about you. :D
