Hi Casey! I'm sorry, I'm not going into boot camp, my husband is there now. However, you'll meet lots of new people. Read Honor, Courage, Commitment by J.F. Leahy. It gives a week to week account of what you'll go through in boot camp. That way you…

I ended up choosing OS, but in the next few months I hope to get EOD. I've gotta take a test to qualify for that first. As it turned out, there's no way I can get HM; it's overflowing w/ both males and females. I'm not so upset about it anymore though--it wasn't meant to be.

By the way, my bf knows what that's like, having bad eyesight... there were very few jobs open to him because of it.

Hey, just wondering--how in the world did you get HM? I couldn't because it was "unavailable" for women when I went to MEPS in August. My recruiter's requesting it though and my fingers are crossed...I want that job so bad!

And I saw where someone answered you about grad n go for those staying in Great Lakes. If you are grad and go and styaing there "usually" you dont get to leave right after PIR. That is when they make you move your belongings to the School Barracks, then release them from there. All th Moms at our PIR that had grad n go that stayed at GL left after PIR and went back when their sailor called them (about 2-3 hrs) and picked them up. Now also they got to have their kids stay overnight with them in their motels if they didnt have watch duty. So that is something you might get. So be prepared to see them for a bit and then have them leave to go move to their new Barracks. Any other questions you have PLEASE ask!

Hi Casey
The ONLY thing I know that they frown on is PDA. Which is excessive kissing.....LOL I dropped a couple tears on my son when I reached him after they announced Liberty. He was ready to get out of the Grad Hall very quickly (they tell them that anyone left there for over 5 mins after Liberty release has to stay and clean up) I dont think that would happen but I think it is their way of clearing the Hall rather quickly! Just remember NO PICS once you get out of the Hall! Now when we dropped him off on the last day (Sunday) that was the hardest for me to control my tears. My son said his goodbyes to everyone there leaving me for last. He hugged me so tight and whispered I love you Momma, then looked me in the eyes and said Goodbye.....I said No son not goodbye....see you soon, to which he gave me that wonderful smile of his, but I could see the tears welling up in his eyes. That was the hardest for me to NOT cry. I didnt want his last mins with me to see me bawling like a baby. I waited till he was out of site before I broke down.....LOL

Don't know if anyone answered you about the "grad 'n go"...That is really a term for sailors who graduate and then ship to their new school that day. Since BUD/S Prep guys aren't leaving Great Lakes, that term doesn't really apply to them (in my opinion, don't know what they officially call them). Anyway, they will have the rest of the day Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday liberty, (our son had one guard duty shift) and just need to be back on base at night. They move across the street sometime the following week after PIR.
